Default Gauge setup for TN kit.

Hey, I don't usually post here, I spend alot more time on g35driver, but I was told (and its true) that there is alot more FI info on here. I had this thread on driver, but I think some members here may be of more help.

I'm having my TN kit installed very soon, and I want to get a good set of gauges. I want to get Boost, Oil Pressure(think I need this?), and Wideband. I think I'm going to go with the Defi Boost, and Oil Pressure, and the Inovative Wideband. I have just a couple questions about the gauges.

-What color do I want to get the Defi gauges in to match the interior? Amber? Also it seems like there are different levels of gauges, Imperial, BF, ect. Which ones should I get??

-The Inovative Wideband (X-16) comes with like 16 different combos of faceplate, and a bunch of other stuff, but Do I need a "control unit" like the one that the Defi gauges need to use this gauge??

-How do the Autometer nexis gauges compare to the Defi, they are only a little bit more money, and if they work better, and read more accurate, then I would rather just spend the extra money and get those. Which gauges are the better of the two??

-Is there such a thing as a knock-off gauge, I have seen some very good prices on ebay, for new gauges from ebay stores, but I'm not sure if they are legit or not. I know there were alot of knock-off "Tein" springs being sold on ebay, and I dont want to waste my money on a knock-off chinese boost gauge.

-Is the brightness setting on these gauges adjustable?, I cant stand bright light when I'm driving at night, I turn the cluster down to as dark as it can go, to the point where it is about to shut off.

Also does anyone have any recomendations on where to purchase the gauges, Vivid racing seems to have the best prices, so far, but I also got a good price from a loacal shop, and I wouldnt have to worry about shipping. If you are a forum vendor, send me a PM if you could with a price for all of these gauges too.

Thanks in advance
-Tom

If you want to match the inside and want quality. Go with the Defi BF series. The amber color is adjustable, when hooked up the the dimmer. Most don't bother to do so. I wouldn't say it gets bright enough to bother someone. You will also need the control module for them. Along with the other gauges, get a fuel pressure gauge also. But Defi is the way to go. I didn't even consider anything else. Refresh my mind? The G35 doesn't have a oil pressure gauge does it (stock)?

So far as the wideband, I'm not sure about the X16. I have the LC1.

Nope, the G35 dosent have a stock oil pressure gauge. Do you think I would need a fuel presure? I don't plan to go over 400?

You really don't half to. The reason I did, at that time there seem to be some issues with the TN fuel mod. and fuel pressure running high at idle. But it all got straighten out now.

All I can say is that I love my Defi's, they are very accurate. I don't know anything about the autometer nexus guages, sorry. I have amber and I generally keep them at there brightest setting and don't have any problems with them blinding me.

I would just poke around http://images.google.com/ and see what looks the best. Or skim youtube...there are some cute startup sequences that might be appealing. This is nice IMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0WVHJemtYQ

Personally, I would want amber to match the stock gauges but I'm really partial to blue so I'm really no help.

All I have ever run is boost and wideband. Every shop i talked to said all other things (fuel pres, oil, water, etc) will show up in other places if it's an issue.

I guess you could go nuts with gauges if you wanted to.

Thats exactly what my shop said, but I have a tripple gauge pod, I know I need boost, and wideband, I basically just need something to fill the empty hole in the gauge cluster

I would definitely go with an oil pressure gauge on an FI setup if you dont already have one.

i would get an oil pressure gauge. when you add a turbo, you add oil plumbing, and thus you add potential for oil plumbing failure and without a pressure gauge you would have no idea if you spring a leak until the stock idiot light comes on to tell you that your engine just got ruined

So oil pressure is more important than temp? I'm new to the whole FI thing, so please help me decide which gauge to fill slot number 3 with. I would love to get oil Temp, oil pressure, tranny temp(I'm 5AT), and fuel, but there is just not enough room for all of these gauge, plus they are not cheap.

You can always get a mild custom setup in the cubby hole. I've seen some nice setup's here.
