Default Is This Supposed To Be This Way?

This is where the upper oil pan meets the transmission. This is just opposite to the starter on the other side. Is this supposed to be open like this or is there supposed to be a cover? The flywheel is visible inside.

Thanks Gus....

Correct me if I'm wrong but from looking at the service manual it looks like the cover is threaded and the bolts holding it on come in from behind and hold the trans bell housing on as well.

Don't hold me to it, it has been a while, but I thought that plate was held in place by tranny bolts

Is that the location for the starter on right-hand drive versions of this car?

Larry,

good thing you caught this! You wouldn't want any large debris, pebbles, etc to find its way in there.

The cover has the threaded part built into it. You do not need to remove the tranny. Just take the bolts out and replace them with the correct ones that go through the cover.

edit. I just threw that stuff out a week or two ago.

Hey Larry, I am sending you a new inspection cover and bolts today. This part was not with the stuff that you brought us, when your car came from PF. I completely forgot to order it for you, and overlooked it before you drove off.

Thanks for pointing it out.
