Default AAM Surge tank & Pump---Need Help

Anyone ever install one of these AAM Surge Tank & Pump set-ups? see link below.

I bought one and I have no idea where to mount it. Under the car or in the glove box on top of the OEM fuel access cubby???

If anyone has it installed would you mind sharing any pics, or ideas of better ways to install, improvements made, etc.

Also looking for some feedback on the unit. If there is anything that needs to be done to the unit before install.

What is interesting about the install is that in the instructions provided by AAM, they show a diagram (see link above) where from the surge tank there is an overflow port that leads back to the main OEM fuel tank. I don't even see a port on the surge tank other than the feed in port and the port out connecting to the bosch pump. Other than that, there is no other port.

Am I supposed to weld a bung to create an access back to the main tank?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Correct. I just saw a pic of it floating around not too long a go, but yes, it mounts up right under the rear of the car.

I hope that by using the greddy TT exhaust, it won't interfere with the install of this unit.

A little birdy just sent me some pics. Here it goes, but I still don't see where the overflow fits in.

I just caught this photo and noticed a second port just behind the one showing on top. Look closely and you might see a second port just peeking out behind the one facing the top of the unit.

the plumbing in that map is no good. you will run into problems. you need to return from the regulator back to the surge can. then have the surge can overflow to a return correction kit in your stock pump assembly.

time to bust out the welder

Hey CJ,
Can you recommend which fitting to weld into the surge?
Where is best to weld, maybe one of the ends? and then I will need to devise some plumbing back from the surge to the OEM fuel return fitting. Thanks.

Maybe something like this?

Can be found on this site: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_89728_-1

Would this work in conjunction with your stage 2 Return Fuel System?

that bung will work fine, you should weld a -6 bung anywhere on the can, it doesnt really matter, and run the return from the regulator there. use the fitting currently on the top center of the can to go back to the return bulkhead on the OEM assembly.

Sure, you can make it work with the S2 kit. just plumb it all up as required... the bosch pump would pump into the hardpipe, and have the return line go to the AAM can

Hey CJ,
What size is the an fitting for the hard line by the OEM pump for your stage 2 which feeds the motor? Is it -6 or -8 an? I was thinking it was an -8 and the fitting size for the return mounted on the pump, is that a -6an? I just want to make sure I order the correct fittings to make everything work.
Thanks.

I'm guessing the feed lines are -8an and the return lines are -6an? Not too sure though.

the hardpipe has female -8 ends on it. The return hose is a -6. The return bulkhead is a -4. There is a -4/-6 adapter on the end of the return line for that.

Did that come out of co? might be my old one!
Here is a link that shows picts. how I mounted it. It wouldn't fit the way AAM set it up because of APS exhaust.

Thanks Phunk! I appreciate the help.

Hey Kevin...Unfortunately the reference to your thread from last year has pictures that I believe expired and don't show up anymore.
If you wouldn't mind posting them up on this thread, I would appreciate any help I can get. I am thinking about adding an inline fuel filter to the feed from the bosch into the hard-pipe. Any objections/ideas.

This pict. is of my existing CJM twin pump set up. The 2 -6 lines run from the twin pumps, -8 feed rails.
I used the same filter with the AAM surge and 044 pump.
