so there wasn't a dampener on the motor? if not i would call that the main culprit with the abuse issues accelerate the failure. any type of metal and engine parts have a certain fatigue life when vibrated or twisted. the crank in an engine making that much power will flex quite abit on each piston firing, that needs to get softened/damped.
i have seen in other motors this effect happening near the middle of the engine also. even in my Z, when i pulled the motor apart after 20k f/i miles, the #3 bearing had the most wear out of all of them.

Question.
How much power were you pushing through that motor Julian? >600rwhp? >700rhp?
Would us lowly <600hp guys have to worry about something like this if we utilize that 2 step feature?

Also were you using drag radials or slicks?
Along with upgraded axles (Level 8)?

So the weakest link in the drive-train ended up being the crank. Interesting..

In addition to increasingly larger hp outputs, I'm thinking these harmonic 'problems' become even worse on a stroked engine, or one with an extended redline.

We just got our new crank back from the balancer..He balanced it and knife edged it like some of the PRO-STOCK motors he has worked on in the past.. We will be updating in the next 2 weeks...

I'm not quite convinced the 2-step can be blamed as the cause here, given what all was done to the motor/drivetrain and what conditions it runs under. Will be interesting to see what happens with the new crank plus dampener.

Do you plan on risking the launch limiter again with the new setup?
