Default New Week.... New Problem

I am going down the street and take a curve and floor the car. All of a sudden..... A cloud of white smoke like when the space shuttle launches comes out in back of my car and from under the hood. I am sure I blew the motor.

I go and look under the hood and the dipstick was blown out of the block with about a 6 ounces of oil.

WTF! What would cause my crancase to pressurize. Stuck PCV valve?

That happened to me once also . Scares the $hit out of you .

Do you happen to be running a different oil filter ? I was running a oil filter that wasn't meant for our motor but cross refrenced to it . It was a tall filter .

Oh..by the way . It never happened again

You have more issues than anything I've ever seen. Same here, but at least mine isn't with my car. I'd like to hear the out come of what this could be?

I had my dipstick pop out when I went WOT up a moderately steep hill. This was when I was NA. I didn't get any cloud of smoke though, in fact it took me a few miles to realize it (I smelled the oil that was dripping onto the manifold heat shield and burning). I figured it just happened cause of the heavy, sudden load. It never did it again.

It happened to me too, check the little plastic piece on the dip stick to make sure it not torn.

Some filters that cross have a chk valve in them. All it is, is a rubber flap that keeps it primed when the car is not running. I just don't see that as being the problem. I can only imagine it being (hopefully) a freak blow by. I doubt it is PCV valve related

Wipe some oil on your finger, does it have a fuel smell to it ?

Could it have Backfired ?

My point being ---If your Rich and get fuel in the crankcase, it can ignite on you . Its quick but will dent a hood with the stick shooting out and also explain the puff of smoke

I have seen this before when you just don't have the dip stick pressed in all the way and it was never actually seated properly.

If it was, you have a crank case pressure problem... Do you run a catch can system? If not I would highly suggest you add one!

I'm not running rich. I am actually running a little lean according to my Innovate... but Jeremy said not to trust it. There is no fuel contaminating the oil.

The crankcase must have been pressurized.... the oil came out like a shotgun blast. Would an improperly seated dipstick cause the oil to explode out?

It could have, just make sure that it is seated all the way. You are going to get pressure in the crank case especially with boost, enough to blow a dip stick out if it was not pushed in all the way. If it was, you are getting excessive pressure and is more than likely a mechanical issue or lack of proper suction on the crank case by the turbo/catch can system.

Thanks for the help.... I will clean it up and give it another try. Hopefully it was not completely seated. I did check the oil last night. Maybe I didn't put it back in all the way.

An unseated stick would only offer an additional vent. The stick must have been seated enough to cause the oil loss. Pressure build--quick release--stabilization

Some one had mentioned to me that the check valve in the oil filter may have not opened causing the crankcase to preasurize . I took off that oil filter and put on a stock oil filter on and it never happened again .

Funny that both of us had the taller oil filter on and it happened to both of us under boost . One of us with a SC and the other with a turbo

By the way....my crank case breather hose in vented straight out the bottom of the car . No catch can , and not ran back to the intake .

Larry,

What does your PCV/breather setup look like? Do you have a line hooked up to the driver's side valve cover? There should be a line runnign from the back of the valve cover to the inlet piping on the driver's side turbo.

This line acts like a vacuum source to evacuate crankcase pressure when under boost. The suction of the turbo creates a vacuum in the turbo inlet (air filter side of turbo) piping, which, if conncected to the valve cover, will pull pressure from the crankcase.

Take a look at your setup and report back!
