That's exactly WHY I joined my350Z.com; you guys sound like mechanics
(professional ones, I mean, not weekend warriors, like moi!). I gotta admit
most of the time I'm lost with all those acronyms. Maybe, one of these days,
someone will make a list of some/most of them, for ignorant laymen such as
me...MAF, RWHP, etc. Imagine, I thought FI meant fuel injection! I guess

Well back in the old days we never quoted rwhp #.s as there was really no dynos.We would just say you wanna run it and see.......how much do you want to loose tonight.Thats just the way it was 15-20 years ago.

 

I just tell them both whp and HP numbers

 

I agree with Charles here. If i'm talking to someone in the know I will give them both. if I'm talking to someone i don't know I will give them crank HP. I just added 15% to my whp number.

I also like to figure out cars lb per HP figures and I have made a list so I now where my car fits in to give it some perspective. As you can see 565 whp (670 bhp) is in very impressive company.

depends who it is. i do love how it can often times spark someone into a story of how their brothers friends roommates previous pets owner has XXX car with 800hp and doing it on a tunnel rammed small block, street driven. usually in that case i just say "700?? i said 1700hp!!!, i bid you adue fine sir!!"

just like all you guys have said, if I'm talking to someone that KNOWS about cars I tell WHP. But any other normal person, I tell the crank HP and watch their eyes bulge. Haha (even though in the car world my numbers aren't THAT impressive. But I'm happy with them! )

 

I live in an area where its all Vettes and Cobra's and everyone says its 600-700 HP. So after i beat em i just tell em mines stock. Then I ask them if their cars broke and when are they taking it back to the dealership to get checked... (It's funnier that way)

but if they keep it real with me then i tell WHP.

if its some random person i'll just tell them i only have 250 whp/hp... lol
