both are kinda similar, but i would differently run the gt30r, less spool time, especially you running a rear mounted turbo. bigger ar size the more lagg

Those look like front mount housing. Just an idea, STS uses TO4E60 O Trim .58 AR housing and boost hit late 3000rpm or close to 4000rpm at 8psi. Any bigger than that then I see more lag. Not really a Turbo expert but just my .02

So you're going to fab up everything including the charge pipes heading back up to the intercooler? Or are you going to switch out the turbo on the STS kit? Seems like a lot of extra work/money to do it all yourself, unless you have the means to do it.

well im not worried about all the welding and im ordering a bunch or mandrel bent pipes to fab everything up and in my mind it seems easiler to have it back there then try n cram it in the motor bay...also cooler temps with it back there

good luck with your build. with the turbos being so far away exhaust gases loose heat and velocity so with that said running a 35r will just make the lag worse. so you want to go for a smaller turbo with a rear mount set up.

Okay I can finally contribute...:-) On www.maxima.org there are two rear mount turbo maxima's. One goes by the name of streetzlegend. His turbo is similar to the GT35r I believe it's .69 AR and a .63 turbine. I will get more specifics on it, but he runs 10 psi on his stock block VQ30. At first he was spooling later just as everyone has said he would, but now he is able to spool up at the same rate or faster than a front mount setup. All he did was wrap the exhaust housing and piping on the hot side of the turbo to achieve it. So with that being said you can have a rear mount setup that spools just as the same as a front mount. Here is a link to what I am talking about. Thanks....

I would go with the gt30 because of spool time.

Question... what is the difference in the housing on a rear mount or a regular turbo??

**sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but i haven't seen the differences talked about anywhere else, so i figured I would throw it out here and see if anyone knew off hand.

What is the appeal of a rear-mount turbo???? I just don't get it...cooler temps? be different??? I guess it would be easier to service the turbo itself, but the extra pipes and the distance the compressable air has to go...just seems counter intuitive
