I'm not on the fence, simply because I can't afford it (yet), but I would really like a ride.

Would a real sequential gear box be better? hell yes it would, but with a price tag of $17,000+ the Ikeya Formula option is well worth it at $2100 + shipping.
I might have to take you up on a ride. I'd deff like to see it in person before i decided to go with it.

it looks great
however it also seems to sit pretty tall..
and i noticed that the throws are pretty far!!!
it seems as through your right elbow almost hits the back of the seat...
i'd like to see how long the syncro's last with this setup
+1 for having great pioneers of awesome jdm parts..
Congrats! and good job on the working out

nice vid luie.

questions----

when downshifting or coasting to a stop, do you have to let each gear engage like you did in the second video, or can you engage the clutch and hit it forward 5 times?

also, is there an indicator that shows each gear, i saw where you said it showed if its in reverse, but what about 1-6. say you forgot what gear you are in, since youre not using the H anymore.

Yes to your first question, and yes the indicator indicates every gear so you know what gear your in.

As far as the other comment from the other member. Its a seq shifter this is not intended for drag racing but more applicable on a road course or aggressive canyon / mountain roads. As far as the syncros, I think they will hold up well as long as you dont go through the gears like a raped Ape

Do you still have to rev match and heel toe rev match when you downshift?

I am totally confused now...

I thought this system was the same as a Manual Transmission but with the exception that its a Front to back shift instead of a H shift?...Meaning that you have to engage the clutch for every shift.

A real sequential shift is either Clutchless or if you have a clutch...you only have to use it once to engage the system.

I have read some of the post and some feel that the AT can be used the same as a REAL sequential transmission.... Going from 1st to 5th YES.....but going from 5th to 1st NO. The REAL sequential trans will automatically rev the engine (its called "Heel Toe" with MT) to match the wheel speed to prevent the rear wheel from locking up which will put you out of control at high speeds....the regular AT will NOT rev the engine pre engagement.

And Joe is correct ....the Real Seq trans can cost anywhere from 15K to 27K.

So which one is this Luie ?

Imagine your gear box and shifter but instead of a h paterrn its up and down. You HAVE TO press the clutch in in order for the gaer of choice to engage.

This is not a transmission, just a shift kit, that is all. Every thing you did before stills apply to this shifter, instead now you shift up and down. I hope this clears things up.

This is the complete kit

I am sure you can figure out by looking at the parts how it works. For you guys that cant figure it out, there are 5 or 6 little people that reside in the big black housing that move the gears into place, and the reason its so big is cuz one of them is pretty tall, so thats why it made that way.

Peace!

Not sure if someone already answered this, but now that Joe has done a couple of these, what's the approximate installation time?

really great video - seriously. It's a really neat part

when I was briefly looking up prices for it around google, I thought it was more in the $1200 range and I was thinking I could possibly do that, but for $2200-2400, I'll probably pass. With as many upsides this mod has, like any mod there are some downsides like accelerated tranny wear, slightly awkward to drive on the street in certain situations, and a slight increase on gas mileage, but the main downside IMO is the price just to get the part and then there's installation on top of that.

Its interesting no doubt, but I would rather stick with the nomal H pattern. From the sounds of the shift delays in your videos compared to videos I have and other videos the delays are not far apart at all.

But great write up, and nice job introducing a new option to the community.

Thanks Dill

Yes IMO it is pricey but well worth it for the fun factor. As far as prices I know Joe picked his up for about $1500 when the Yen rate was good (back in Dec). Anyhow I know its not for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with the H pattern, just a little something different for the Z car.
