Well..........had to replace my AC belt today. What a pita to do since you have to remove the main charge pipe on the vortech kit. Well, tons of oil on my sway bar, bpv case and on the inside of the coupler/pipe right before the BPV.

After a bit of searching ive found a few options:

Universal type = no thanks. Dont want to deal with something that doesnt fit.
Greddy = doesnt fit with vortech
Cusco = doesnt fit with vortech
ARC V1 = do i need to the AAM modded one or not
ARC V2 = compatible and mounting location is ok but blocks my engine cover (see sig) and is costly.


any insight? any others out there?

Suggest ARC V1/AAM or ditch the engine cover and throw the nice ARC V2 on

 

just a bit worried about the ARC install instructions......they may not be very easily followed.

I like the V2 a lot more then the V1. Woder if i could cell the engine cover.

 

if you want a REAL catch can that actually functions and is not there just for looks look at elite engineering usa.com, there catch can is geared towards the ls engine series but i installed it on my z. it works phenominal and you can service it so easy. the bottom screws off to clean the catch vessel.

sc 350z......appreciate the DIY link, but im not looking to go that route. I want something that at least looks good and functions.

pic's.as you can see i moved my rad overflow tank to where my washer fluid tank use to be. but the catch can is small enough it can be mounted virtually mounted anywhere. last pic is with the lower portion removed for cleaning.

how much extra tubing did you have to buy?

 

about 3 feet of 3/8 id fuel line. are you going to run it back into the lower plenum port? the catch can runs for $145.00 shipped.

 

If you do the ARC V1 you will need to close those holes in the top or smell Oil vapors inside the car..

 

if your getting oil everywhere get your blower off ASAP and get it to vortech the seals are bad i just had this problem shorted my MAF and all so get it to vortech ASAP trust me and its a little over a week turn around hope this helps

 

I only noticed oil in the lower pipe right before the bpv. It spits oil out onto my sway bar. It wasnt much trapped in the coupler, then again it exits the BPV.

I thought that was semi normal with the VQ. The little breather hose is in front of the blower on the intake filter, is it not the source of the oil?

My god, if the seals are bad im going to be pissed. I had the blower reworked 700 miles after i installed it( Brand spanking new) and now it has just over 4300 on the new blower. Wouldnt i be buring oil, blowing blue smoke if oil was passing through my intake.

 

Get rid of the engine cover, get the Arc v.2. Ball out and get a radiator shroud or a Cosworth plenum to make you feel better bout losing the cover. The cover is serving no benefit. Doesn't sound like you'd want to do the diy one either. The Arc v.2 works and don't have to worry bout plugging the vent holes

 

Can the greddy be made to work? Id like to stick with a nice setup not from Home Depot ( no offense but they look like crap but probably work great)

Does that hose that connects to the intake not come into play on catch cans? I thought it was the PCV breather hose.

 

I really don't know they just said I did it right. Awww it will take forever to fill that can, I'm just going to plan on draining it once a year.

 

ahhhhhhhhhhhh just did some reading. What do you guys think about running 2 catch tanks?

See the attached pic. Basically it seems everyone is catching the oil that passes into the plenum from the right side valve cover through the pcv valve. I want to catch the oil that goes from the left side valve into my intake tract. If you read the paragraph and follow the picture, youll see that under WOT or low vacuum(boost = neg vacuum) conditions that oil travels in the opposite direction. That means oil goes into the intake from the left side valve cover.

Left = driver, right = passenger.

The old style of installs places the catch tank between the pcv and the right side valve cover. It still catches oil properly for that side, but its not preventing oil getting into your intake under WOT/Boost.

The white arrows in the pic are airflow, the black are oil.

I may try to run 2 small catch cans or just a single on the intake to lh valve cover hose to prevent blow by into my intake. Id run two small tanks because i dont know the effect of running 2 in lines and 2 out lines (one from each side and then a return to the intake,pcv). Seems like that would cause some issues with the breathing (almost like shorting out the motor through the tank) since the PCV would draw air directly from the intake.
