MPG for Supercharger & Turbo
I was just wondering, since I have never really done a comparison of the two, I would ask you guys. Now, I am talking about mpg on a steady cruise at like 80-85 mph on the interstate with maybe a procharger or a turbo.
In the city, I know it would largely depend on how much of a lead foot you are, but I do wonder what it would be like if you drove like a sane person (yeah right
).
What I am more interested in though, is the results on the interstate cruise at like 80 for both methods of FI. Thoughts???

Turbo will be close, if not the same, as stock. Nothing is happening at steady state with a turbo. With an SC, your engine is turning about 3000 RPM, and spinning the SC along with it. Ive seen data for the Miata - Turbo v/s SC MPG, and the Turbo's are much better at MPG overall. I think steady state would be an ever larger gap between the 2.

You can install a bypass valve between the SC and throttle body to allow an SC (as long as it's centrifugal) to run on vacuum like a turbo. This helps combat the parasitic loss of the SC when you don't want boost...load driven, like a turbo. It still won't be quite as effecient as a turbo, but it will close the gap significantly.

Hmmm, don't most systems come with a bypass valve, and will it cause a lag in the SC??? Don't know for sure if the procharger has a bypass valve included.
I kinda like the properties and price of the SC more, especially when I don't plan on going for nutty HP. I do like the potential of turbos, but they would depend on price for me.
