rr z33 and minus500 - PM's sent.
Hey everyone,
The 3" True Duals are very hard to fit...the 350Z and G35 really were not designed to have such a large exhaust underneath!
In designing the exhaust we decided to put an emphasis on best flow & performance vs. easier fit. This does cause the installation to be difficult. The exhaust needs to be adjusted, and then checked after everything (the exhaust mounts) settles. This is why we advertise 2-3hr installation time on our website
We have had a handful of people have trouble when installing their 3" True Dual. If they are local we typically have them come by the shop and, nine times out of ten, with the proper adjustment everything fits just as it should. A very large problem we see is when a shop who hasn't installed this system before installs the exhaust they typically undersell the job (even though we recommend 2-3hrs to install the exhaust & adjust everything many shops only allow for the typical quick bolt everything up as quickly as you can exhaust installation ).
So the person installing the exhuast whips it up as quickly as they can, without paying attention to the adjustments. With how the flanges are designed, there is a good 1" to 2" of adjustment in both the resonators and mufflers/tips. This leads to many problems when not installed & adjusted correctly. We are in the process of making detailed instructions so that it is easier for our customers (or their installation shop) to install & adjust the systems.
I'd also like to note that about a year ago we developed a new method to manufacture the exhaust without compromising any performance, and the newer systems are much easier to install & adjust.
But, from time to time, there are systems that just do not fit (maybe the car was in a small accident at one point of its life, maybe aftermarket turbos or downpipes are off a little which makes our exhaust not install properly, or maybe our exhaust system was not up to our standards and causes the fittment issue).
We gladly stand 100% behind all of our products and are happy to go the extra mile and adjust the exhaust to fit every 350Z & G. If you have one of our exhaust systems and it has a fittment problem send us some pics (detailed from the manifolds/headers back) and send us the exhaust and we'll make sure your exhaust fits as should. If we have a problem on our end (the exhaust is simply made wrong) we have updated our policies and we will gladly credit you shipping. PM me or e-mail me MikeM@alteredatmosphere.com if you have any questions!

Mike actually had a good point too: other aftermarket components can cause the exhausts to fit poorly without adjustment. I have seen test pipes and headers (I'm sure that applies to downpipes) change the angles that Y pipes fit at, and cars naturally get twisted over time so older cars might be off slightly.
but still, if you read between the lines, Mike basically said that he knows the exhausts fit poorly (hence the redesign)... even if he will deny that

sent a message back to mike today.
i took it to another shop to get a second opinion.
the person that installed my exhaust is a close friend of mines and i was personally there so i know he spent that long trying to put it on. his dad is a 20yr ASE certified mechanic. he also had a look at it and said it wasnt a great fit. anyway hopefully this issue will be resolved. i think i was in the batch before they figured out the new production technique. i did find a driveshaft luckily. $400 with two day air. so that was good news.

Its not a matter of headers, turbos, or manifolds. It's just poor fitment plain and simple. Mine was installed at their shop and the guy who modified their 350Z exhaust decided that it would be better to dent in the rear section for it to clear the sway bar instead of actually make it fit correctly. This was 4 days after it left the shop. Pictures are worth 1000 words. Here ya go.
