Finally supercharging my Z! Planning on going with the GTM stage 4 HKS

There is always a premium involved with buying quality JDM parts.
I'm assuming you consider parts from ARC, Endless, Power Enterpise, Top Secret, Project Mu, Mine's, Tomei, Varis, Amuse, ORC, etc., to be "overpriced" as well?
Funny as you bought a HKS exhaust, which is "overpriced" for a SS exhaust according to your own logic

I'm glad Vortech took care of you, but I seem to remember a couple of members posting that when their new Vortech blower broke and the blades chewed up the intercooler, Vortech would not replace/repair the intercooler, only the blower. Also saw a few posts where those that had rebuilt Vortech blowers, had to send them back a 2nd and even a 3rd time...
where are you getting this info? It's not more compact, unless you mean IC size. The blower and bracket is just as big as a Vortech.
Same with more efficient? Please post hard evident showing its increased efficiency? Vortechs make the same power on the same boost as the HKS.
Quieter? Those vids Marble had were definitely not quieter than a vortech.

Ummm..Where are you getting your info from?
Have you seen/heard the HKS GT SC in person? Or better yet, seen and heard it next to a Vortech?
I'm assuming not, so you really don't know.
The compressor section on the HKS blower is smaller than the Vortech, but flows just as good if not better. Both the blower and bracket are lighter than the Vortech.
And you are wrong, the HKS puts down more power than the Vortech at the same psi.
The HKS is hands down quieter than the jet sounding Vortech. Comparing vid's is tard. See and hear in person and you will see.
Do some more research on the internal characteristics of the HKS and Vortech blowers if you are going to call me out on it. You will discover that the HKS design, like the Rotrex, is more "efficient" than traditional centrifugal superchargers like the Vortech (e.g. traction drive vs. gear driven).
Sorry I don't have the time/energy to provide all the haters with "hard evidence".

It was either this or the JWT tt kit, which would cost about the same anyways. The only cheaper option is the vortech kit, but I have been hearing that the HKS is apparently much higher quality.

HKS makes nice equipment, but go Vortech in a heartbeat over the HKS unit.

If you DD your car then I guess carb legal FI is for you...if not go with Turbo.
I think they can get you with a modified engine citation if they are dicks and you will have to go to the referee but you will pass and not have to take the system off.

Right behind you
For starters, the HKS unit doesn't have the death rattle in idle! That alone is enough to put me off the Vortech.

I can't quote numbers right now because i haven't got my manuals handy. But i can tell you that as a marine engineer, planetary gears are A LOT more efficient than traditional straight cut gears, i know this because they are used a lot in marine gearboxes. They are also alot more compact so you can fit them in much smaller spaces.
If you had eyes you could see how much more compact the HKS blower unit is. Not just that but also simply look at the pulley arrangement. The HKS unit has a single belt with two pulleys at either side, one of which is the actual blower, and a tensioner in the middle. The vortech unit has what seems to be about 5 pulleys and two separate belts, and then the actual blower pulley! How can you even compare the 2!
If you look at the dyno's that are coming out, the HKS unit is making about the same power @ 7 psi as the Vortech kit, but the HKS unit is making a lot more torque, and all from a smaller blower.
There is nothing to back up your statements.

HAHA,
For 8k$+++, thats a T-trim Vortech installed. When HKS starts making 500 hp like a similarly priced T-trim'd vortech setup with off the shelf HKS parts and not 1 off custom GTM parts, let me know.
Of course the rotrex is different design than the centrifugal blower. The overall size of the parts is just as big as the vortech. Physical size of the blower doesnt matter bc you shove that space full of piping.
either way, both are viable options. Just depends if you wanna pay 3 grand more for a name.
On a side note, does anyone have a pic of the carb tag on the HKS? Just wondering where it is?

You poor cali guys. The cops can pull you over for no reason most likely....look under your hood and give you a ticket for mods...damn. MA sucks for doing the mods, almost no shops around anywhere, and we do have the same emission as you guys, but we can't be ticketed for a modified engine. (exceptions of smoke from exhaust...noise level....that kind of stuff still applies so it isn't too easy.) We are more likely to get pulled over for being modified but that can't be the reason why we get pulled over.
After doing a little looking around, i found the HKS for significantly less, but i am assuming this is the base version of the HKS kit.
Listening to some of the videos was best i could, but it does seem quieter, and it does seem to produce more torque, but less hp than the vortech.
So, just enhancing your decision, if it is your prefference, go for it, but find a better price, since your probably could. Many are vortech fans including myself, but the noise isn't something everyone wants, which is why i will upgrade to ST in the next year.

Yes, the vortech unit is cheaper, but it also looks cheaper, and i'll bet it doesn't have almost 2 years of R&D behind it, before it went on the market.
Don't get me wrong, i think the vortech is a great unit, and makes good power, but it is by no means the same quality as the HKS unit.
You say that the T-trim is making lots of power, that's great, but look at the size of the blower for christ sake! If HKS had a similar sized unit there would be no competition. What i'm trying to say is that the HKS unit is more efficient, as it can make the same power and more torque than the vortech unit at the same psi out of a much smaller blower.
Oh and you can make 500hp with HKS off the shelf parts. You just have to order the Pro kit from Japan, that comes with a bigger blower and more boost.
To the OP. I think if you opt on this kit, you wont be dissapointed, and you will still have room to expand further down the line. Yes you pay a bit more for the HKS unit, but damn what great unit it is.
