Default Finally supercharging my Z! Planning on going with the GTM stage 4 HKS

Called up GT Motorsports today and told them that I was interested in FI, and wanted a reliable, quiet, CARB passable setup (because cali is very strict). After some discussion I ended up deciding on this stage 4 HKS supercharger kit by GTM:

A bit on the expensive side, but it should be top quality work. Supposed to be the best solution for what I am looking for, in the reliable yet still much more powerful 380WHP range.

No, im just thinking it over for now.

It was either this or the JWT tt kit, which would cost about the same anyways. The only cheaper option is the vortech kit, but I have been hearing that the HKS is apparently much higher quality.

Vortech is CARB approved and 1/2 the price and would net you the same sort of power...

unless you are just buying for the brand name

well my goal isn't maximum HP, I am trying to retain as much reliability as I can. My Z is my daily driver after all, so I can't go all race car with it. That and it's an auto.

Don't take this the wrong way, but If I was about to drop that kind of coin... I would be expecting like 550whp "as reliable as possible". Your money, do as you wish. GL!

As USN said, you can get a good alternative for 1/2 the price.... unless your trying to be a brand *****

550WHP? now how would I go about that? Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that going above 400WHP is when you start to get the reliability issues.

And it's not all about the band name with me, just the quality of the finished product and how well it can work out on a daily driver.

I'd like to see the answer to this question as well!

How about you save your $10K for the 2009 Z roughly 350hp or another car? Just a suggestion.

Well for one I happened to pickup my Z used for a great price at the time I bought it, and I also got a one time special deal with my dad so I ended up only paying about 6-7k out of my pocket for the 350Z (after selling my first car which was a gift). So basically I personally spent very little for this car, and if I were to buy a new car to replace the 350, it would end being one hell of a lot more money out of my pocket. So the way I look at it is that about 20k out my pocket is a pretty good price to pay for a 2006 grand touring 350Z with an HKS supercharger (if I do get it of course).

Especially when it would cost me at least 35 - 40k to upgrade to an M3. I think I would have more fun with the Z anyways, and I would much rather be seen driving a custom 350Z as well.

The new 370 does seem like it will be great being lighter weight with a more powerful engine, but there is just something about the 350Z that I just love that the 370 seems to have lost, but I am probably speaking too early.

Well You are probably looking at $15K when all said and done. I would do a Powerlab GT35R kit or a Greddy Twin Turbo Kit, Standalone, Fuel System, Pistons and Rods, leave the heads alone, and call it a day. I personally feel your spending to much for too little.

I am closing in on 70Kmiles with my Vortech set up. That's 70K with the SC, not total miles on car. It's my daily driver.
