Finally supercharging my Z! Planning on going with the GTM stage 4 HKS
this was a good read... IMHO, both are good FI systems. The only limiting factor for me is the $$$. Bottom line is that everything cost money and personal preference. If you have the money to burn... go ahead and enjoy!

Yes, the vortech unit is cheaper, but it also looks cheaper, and i'll bet it doesn't have almost 2 years of R&D behind it, before it went on the market.
Don't get me wrong, i think the vortech is a great unit, and makes good power, but it is by no means the same quality as the HKS unit.
You say that the T-trim is making lots of power, that's great, but look at the size of the blower for christ sake! If HKS had a similar sized unit there would be no competition. What i'm trying to say is that the HKS unit is more efficient, as it can make the same power and more torque than the vortech unit at the same psi out of a much smaller blower.
Oh and you can make 500hp with HKS off the shelf parts. You just have to order the Pro kit from Japan, that comes with a bigger blower and more boost.
To the OP. I think if you opt on this kit, you wont be dissapointed, and you will still have room to expand further down the line. Yes you pay a bit more for the HKS unit, but damn what great unit it is.

Vortech has a 3 year warrenty on it's superchargers.

I'm assuming not, so you really don't know.
The compressor section on the HKS blower is smaller than the Vortech, but flows just as good if not better. Both the blower and bracket are lighter than the Vortech.
And you are wrong, the HKS puts down more power than the Vortech at the same psi.
The HKS is hands down quieter than the jet sounding Vortech. Comparing vid's is tard. See and hear in person and you will see.
Do some more research on the internal characteristics of the HKS and Vortech blowers if you are going to call me out on it. You will discover that the HKS design, like the Rotrex, is more "efficient" than traditional centrifugal superchargers like the Vortech (e.g. traction drive vs. gear driven).
Sorry I don't have the time/energy to provide all the haters with "hard evidence".

EDIT: Good read BTW.
on the Vortech warranty, if the blower goes bad who pays the shop to remove and re-install it? what about a car to drive while they are rebuilding your unit, or do they just send you a brand new one right away?

You can remove it, it's a couple of bolts, car will drive fine without it
If they were both priced the same, I would definately go with the HKS SC. Though they make similar peak power, I have noticed that the HKS has the better powerband. It has better low-end torque & power. Whereas the Vortech's power down low (less than 3k rpm) is almost as close to an NA VQ35DE.
The HKS seems to be a better product; I have seen & heard it in person. And the dyno's show it has alot of potential. It is also quieter than the Vortech, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your preferences.
But at the end of the day, its hard to pay so much for an SC kit. Which is why I would probably still end up with a Vortech.

After its finished, it will be shipped to GRD for install and tuning.
:edit: kit is being worked on

Do you have an eta on when your car might be finished?

What or Where is GRD?? How come Sam isn't doing everything for you? Also, why did you decide against the intercooler temp gauge?
My car should be finished sometime this week. I am hoping to go down and get it Saturday. Just waiting to hear from Sam. There were several parts delays but at this point it should just be a matter of getting it all together and getting it tuned and ready to go.....Im sure that is much easier said than done. I agree that it's worth the wait to get it done right.
Which car is yours? When Im down at GTM I'll take a peek and ask Sam what the status is.

I live in Chicago. Sam was willing to make a "bolt-on" package for me remotely.
I only have the G and a I need a car for work, and I couldn't justify the cost of transport and rental car fees to have the car shipped to GTM.
GRD is the only authorized HKS Pro Dealer in Illinois. So once the kit is complete, the plan is to have it, along with the upgrades, shipped to GRD where it will be installed, along with a AFK, and given a final tune.
If I was still living in Cali, my car would already be at GTM
As far as the intercooler temp guage, I'm trying to have minimal guages because I plan to go with a full HKS CAMP2 setup in the near future
Definetly keep us updated with your build, from other's reviews, you will surely enjoy it!

I've had a Vortech on our Z for 3 years now with plenty of track and DD driving. The kit is extremely reliable.
"You get what you pay for" is a true statement - with the HKS you get marginally better performance and a much higher cost.

I've had a Procharger on my car for 3 years and the kit is very high quality and makes the same power as the HKS but at 7 psi not 9psi. It also cost almost half what the HKS kit cost. To me this is a simple decision.

Your right, ATi makes the best supercharger kit for our cars, I have no idea why more people don't use it.
Oh yea, it eats up belts, is super loud, and generates a ton of heat, I almost forgot!
BTW, you can't compare power levels unless it was done on the same dyno, under the same conditions, and your Procharger is going to make no where close to as much torque as the HKS SC does in the lower rpms.
Having seen, and installed both supercharger kits, the HKS kit is far more complete, and higher quality, doesn't destroy belts, and its much quieter.
Post up your 7PSI graphs.
My procharger hasnt eaten any belts since the jack shaft is now installed properly.. ( Installer fail!! ) Not saying its better than HKS but id like to say its not eating belts anymore even at 15psi...... Will dyno soon.... My car never overheats... And i love the sound..

Update? Ill give you a darn update. YOU had to go and mention the CAMP 2 so naturally I was FORCED to research it and now it's going in my car and Im already way over budget. And it's all your fault.
Of course Im kidding, but it did happen pretty much like that. So really I have you to thank for a cleaner install.
