I've thought about it, since I heard it is a better track. It's supposed to be a bit cooler out there and better prep. Do they have any open drag nights?

Thanks man! Yeah, I get some **** on this forum for the 20" chrome show wheels, but in person everyone loves them and I personally think they look really good. The extra weight is probably a factor, but I proved that you can still get a good time with bad driving, heavy car (200lbs stereo and convertible) and heavy wheels.

I'm not sure if it is just the day I was there, but that is the strictest tech I have been through (during the WOTM invitational)

If they will kick you out after 1 pass, just work the 1/8th mile and then brake.. you can get your launch down, 330' time, 1/8mi time and mph. With that info, you can get a pretty good idea of 1/4mile. Then once everything is perfect, make a 1/4mi run and get the boot

Tech is different at every track. If you are changing tires at the track, go to tech first. If you go with slicks on and they ask what you think you will run, just tell them you are "hoping to break into the 13's" or some story.
Thanks for the advice. It seems to make sense. I will try that next week and see how that goes.

I think the extra security that day was by Woons' request

Just the opposite, he assumed it would be relaxed due to it being a private rental. This is typically the case at most private rentals I am aware of. When I inquired with a major national NHRA track they told me, "you can go 300mph in your car if you rent the track - you run the show"

+1 that's why I'm going to try to go with the Scottsdale Exotics Club when they rent the track.

Hmmm... maybe I was thinking of it backwards. I thought someone told me Woon wanted the extra safety to prevent anyone from holding up the runs. I could be wrong though...

Very nice first run, esp with all that stuff you have on the car and the condition.

Speed World doesn't have their **** together at all! Some of this worked to my advantage, as you'll see in a moment, but for the most part it destroyed my ability to see what times I was running last night.

I left my house in East Mesa around 8:45pm and drove pretty quickly up to Speed World. I was worried that I wouldn't have a chance to get through Tech and get a run. I got there around 10:00pm and got through tech pretty quick. Here is where things started downhill.

1. The tech inspection was a joke. He didn't look at my helmet, my driver's license or my car and he didn't go through the other safety checks. He passed me to 11.5! Like I said, this worked to my advantage, but seriously he must not know anything about convertibles.

2. There were convertibles running with no helmet passed to 14.0.

3. The track was slippery as hell. At Firebird on Friday, I was able to rev to about 1500rpm and my tires hooked without any wheel spin. I couldn't even hook up without revving at all. I would just sit at the lights and push the gas and spin my tires through 1st gear. This was problematic for me, since it kept causing my car to redline and shut off the throttle. I'm going to ask my tuner for a fix for this.

4. I got 10 runs and on 3 of them, the 14 year old girl at the booth said she didn't have a slip for my car number. WTF!

5. On 2 runs, she gave me slips for the wrong cars. WTF! I didn't look at them, since it was dark and I had my helmet on and I was just going through as many runs as I possibly could for practice. When I left, I realized they were for totally different cars. I assume that's where my 3 missing slips went as well.

6. I had 1 slip that says I ran an 8.899!!!! Woohoo! ******* glorious day...oh wait...you say the machine was jacked up...oh well...I still have a slip for a sub 9 second pass!

7. I had 4 other slips and they had missing numbers on every one. WTF!

8. I didn't stop the whole night and didn't watch others run, but many people said I was the fastest car there besides a few complete dragsters that ran in the 10's. When the lanes were closed due to an oil spill, almost every racer got out of their car and came to see mine and ask me questions. I didn't even think I was running very good times, but I guess mine were the lowest for the night for a street car. Evo's were running 13's and STI's were running 14's. I don't know if this is due to the heat and the slippery track or if it is the computers being freaking retarded.

Anyway, it was a hell of a lot of fun. When I finally stopped and parked at the end of the night it turned into a car show. I didn't mess around since it was my first and probably last chance to get to run all out all night without getting the boot. People were shocked to see this heavy convertible Z show up late, run freakin' hard back to back to back, and run the fastest times for the night. Unfortunately, my time slips don't show anything useful. Not sure what good they will do me.

I will call the track this week and ask them about the missing times on my slips to see if they know anything about it.

113mph is not right for your power. Even with the heat...

Now that I have had more runs, I know what the problem is. The car hits the rev limit on the 1-2 shift and the stock ECU cuts the throttle. This is killing my power for about .5 seconds or so. Also with street tires, I can't hook up, so I'm not revving at all. That means I'm starting my run at less than 1000rpm and don't make any boost until 4000RPM. I will be talking to my tuner tomorrow about these issues to see what he can do about them.

Once the car hits power in 2nd it runs like a bat out of hell. I just couldn't get the car in 10 runs to avoid the redline on the 1-2 shift.
