Smile Forged Z 1st Run = 12.52 @ 113 mph

I ran my first time at the track tonight. I only got ONE RUN! Because I have a convertible, I'm supposed to have a roll bar if I run under 13.5, so I knew it was one run and I'm done. Here were the stats:

100+ degrees
Street Tires (Toyo T1R)
20" Chrome Show Wheels (Yikes!)
Auto Tranny (Manually shifted)
Low Boost (10.5 PSI / .7 Bar)
Pump Gas (91)

I had a bad start. I didn't rev it very high, thinking I would just spin my tires. I launched at about 2000 RPM. I also shifted into 3rd too early, so my RPM's dropped to about 3000, which is too low for this TC, so it didn't move much until 4000 rpm. Anyway, not bad for my very first run. There were vettes running 13.1-14.4 and the Viper ran mid- to high- 12's. I'll be back in a few weeks with high boost (22 PSI), slicks, race gas, and a better feel for the car.

Here is a crappy scan of my time slip:

I know my 60ft sucked, but it's because I didn't rev it enough, so no boost was made for a while. I got through the nervousness and now I'm ready to run again. Too bad I'll have to wait a week or 2.

Any advice, besides what I already know I did wrong?

VERY NICE numbers, specially giving the considerations that this was your 1st time and only 1 run, i hope you have a video btw.

Thanks. Actually, my friend started the video and stopped it before I even got into boost! We took some more video on the way home though.

curious, what do you dyno at? Also, i dont have much drag experience but looking to change that now that i got bigger tires, with an auto how can you launch much higher than 2k rpm? Even with the brake pressed revving to around 2-2200 car bogs down and spins...

At low boost, I'm putting down 476whp on a DynoJet. I have a built tranny from SGP with a Pro-torque Converter. The stall is set to 4000RPM, but I just spin my tires at that level. I am putting the stock TC back in and with the torque I have it should still stall around 3000RPM on stock.

They are putting on my 900hp rear axles and Hon is letting me use his slicks. now all I need for my full boost run is some spare tires for the front or maybe stockers. Any offers?

I'm pretty decent on the lights and I'm usually around the .100 range. Heres a tip...when the last yellow light lights up, GO. If you're going to put skinnies on you might want to make a few runs down the track and take it easy until you get used to them. Definitely don't go full throttle on high boost on your first run with them.

BTW the OEM converter is set between 2650-2900 rpms per Nissan specs

you should be running way better times with that much power.

keep it up and keep practicing...

for instance, tom (coachk) went 11.2 at 124 with that exact same amount of power on a stock motor...

^ +1

But, running 12's on your first pass ever is exciting as well. Keep at it!

Congrats. 2.1 60 ft time isn't bad at all on street tires. Is this with your replacement stock TC or the old one (that was giving problems)? Did you brake torque launch? If the stator clutch is really shot/slipping (based on the symptoms you described in your other thread), then you'd be getting greatly reduced torque multiplication off the line. If that's the case and you got a 2.1 60 ft, then that's phenomenal.

The replacement TC hasn't arrived yet. I will have that next week. This is with the TC I described in the other thread. I didn't brake torque launch really. I just revved it to maybe 1500 or so. I didn't want to spin my tires and just wanted to get down the track once and see what I could do. I think it is capable of an 11 with street tires, with a little more practice. I had never launched my car and had the tires hook up on the street, so I just wanted to go straight and not wreck my car!

On the plus side, I hooked up really well because I didn't launch hard.

Thanks. Yes, I should be running 11's for sure, but my TC is having problems and I didn't know what I was doing. I just wanted a run in to get the jitters out and get a feel for the car at WOT. I will be back next week and will be shooting for 11's. Remember, I only get 1 run per week . Firebird is very slow as well and last night was a slow night. A Viper and a Vette were running slower than my time and 1 vette was running 13-14 all night.

I have a lot of room to improve, so dropping the time shouldn't be too hard with a little practice and without being so nervous.

Thanks for the advice on the lights. I will try that next time. I'm just afraid I'll go too early. Will they still give you a slip if you go early?

I'm probably going to have to sand bag it to go full boost and not get kicked off after the first run. Anyone know if they are going to get mad at me for sand bagging and kick me off anyway? Would I even pass tech with slicks and skinnies, or would that throw up red flags?

You will still get a timeslip if you go to early (redlight), and everything will be accurate. Just your reaction time will read negative.

If they will kick you out after 1 pass, just work the 1/8th mile and then brake.. you can get your launch down, 330' time, 1/8mi time and mph. With that info, you can get a pretty good idea of 1/4mile. Then once everything is perfect, make a 1/4mi run and get the boot

Tech is different at every track. If you are changing tires at the track, go to tech first. If you go with slicks on and they ask what you think you will run, just tell them you are "hoping to break into the 13's" or some story.
