Default Custom Turbo?? Worth it? + More questions :)

1. Hey guys, I can get a hold of a 18g turbo (just one) from the Greddy TT kit. I am a BIG Greddy fan, but don't want to run the twins. So I was thinking about havng a custom turbo mount made (like the Turbonetics one) and mounting the Greddy 18g turbo. What do you guys think? I am not looking for crazy horsepower, but for a solid 350 rwhp. I also have a guy that can make the custom turbo mount for me, and does EXCELLENT work. What are your thoughts about this?

2. Also, besides the custom turbo mount, how does the gas mileage do between the supercharger and the turbocharger (lets say single since I dont want twins)???

3. And I havent seen much of people running the single turbo APS kit. Anyone heard about this one? How is the kit? Anyone have one, and what are your thoughts about it???

Thanks!

Unless you are ready to start fabricating EVERYTHING, don't do it. Otherwise, if you want to start from the ground up, go for it.

So pretty much u just wanna have this turbo for the Greddy name? Sounds like a waste of time and money to me..your better off with a regular turbo rather than a custom which might not even work.

along with that, knowign exactly what you are doing and to properly tune it afterwards. this project in that case can end up being more expensive than a kit already made/tested/proven to work.

with that being said, i wish you good luck OP. you will definitley need it

Its a nice thought but I would decline.

My personal advise would to be head up to Cin Motorsports and have them toss on an STS rear mount. Price installed with a warranty is less than 7K.

Im dying to have it done but i got no cash.

Edit: See youve been to Forged so send Sharif a message and get a single installed there. Either way it will be a lot cheaper than fabing up a countless number of parts.

A single 18g turbo is too small to be worth your time. Other than that, go read the newb FI thread because these questions sound pretty newbish.

greddy plate and exhuast housing.

But that Turbo is too small for a single. Id look into somthing larger and if you can fabricate, or at least tach weld go for it and more import have the time to do it and understand what you are doing.

I have been pondering doing this myself, but with somthing larger than a 18g.

Why go through the hassle? If you want a single turbo, you should be looking at Powerlabs. if you want to make the car into a rocket ship, pass up the gt35, and the gt37 and go for the gt42 on a built motor/upgraded cooling/clutch/fueling. 800 rwhp easily.

The choice is simple and smacking you in the face. Unless you have the skills, go with something that works unless you want an expensive paperweight that leaks oil

Well, I am not looking for high power. I want a solid 350 rwhp, maybe even 400, but nothing over that. So I am not looking for a rocket machine.

But thanks anyway.

why is everyone so against to building your own turbo kit? I know companies do alot of r&d but if you do your homework follow thier lead, have good mechanical skills and some ***** you can do this...were not building a nuclear reactor, it a turbo system for god sakes......as long as you put in the time i feel its do-able
oh and i agree the turbo the op is talking about is too small to use for his single turbo....i guess the reason im trying to stand up for the do it yourselfers is i just got this for free

and am thinking about building my own cuz i cant find someone selling just some turbonetics piping so im gonna just make all my own

famous last words. lol. This is why so many ppl buy a single turbo kit or SC and then opt for twins. Do yourself a favor and buy something that has more potential and leave the boost turned down if you don't want 600whp.

When you want more, you can turn up the boost. When I was building Hondas, there really weren't any kits out for them in the early 90s, so we had to fab our own. Building your own kit is not as hard as its sounds. Just make sure you get a good EMS.

In the 300-700HP range there are plenty of good kits out there, and will likely be less expensive and create fewer headaches than trying to do a custom setup. I would reserve custom kits for extreme applications, where there is no good and proven off-shelf option yet.

Either way you go, be it a kit or custom, I would not recommend using a single 18g turbo.

360 at 6 psi is where it's at. go with the GT35 and call it a day. Sell the 18G for a profit to someone who blew a turbo and make some money back! WIN WIN!

A single 18g on this motor would like pissing in the wind.
