Default Vortech Full Kit REVUP AFR Issues

So I finally went into the dyno today to have my car read and I got AFRs anywhere from 11.04 to upwards of 13.39 . This was on a 4th gear pull in WOT.

I don't know what's going on. It was running fine when I was recording it on the street before in 3rd gear but I'm getting readings above 12.00 AFR after 5800 RPM and readings above 13.00 AFR after 6500 RPM.

I'm really worried about the engine now. I wont' be getting past 6000 RPM any time soon until I get the unichip that came with it retuned.

What do you all think?

It runs very safely until those points and runs around 11-12 AFRs otherwise on WOT.

Has anyone else with the full kit had these problems?

I'm running the stock full kit along with a non-revup lower plenum, 5/16" spacer, nismo headers, nismo exhaust, stock cats.

car needs a tune badly, this is why vortech has the disclaimer their kit is for stock purposes besides an exhaust. New tune or piggyback w/ tune and would expect things to be fine, and likely squeeze out a good bit more power....

also, got a question, has anyone had any tuning issues after changing from a rev-up lower plenum to a non-revup or a MREV or MREV+ or MREV2?

I think that the setup of the stock tuning on my vortech kit being tuned for a regular revup engine makes it so that it may be getting "too much air" above 6500 RPM (which is the max RPM for non-revup motors) and therefore my unichip is not currently tuned for my non-revup lower plenum.

I'm going to try to change back to my stock revup lower plenum to see if this problem of leaning out up above 6500RPM goes away.

If anyone has any experience on this please chime in. Did any of your cars run lean in higher RPM ranges after changning to the non-revup style from a revup style lower plenum?

Thanks.

I don't think u understand. The vortech with the unichip is ONLY tuned for a stock g35 or 350z. THerefore, u have mods so u will run lean up top no matter what u do without a retune . It doesnt matter if u swap the plenum back to stock bc u have headers and other mods also. The only way the mixture will get back to normal is if u return your car back to stock with only vortech or get a tune for ALL your mods.

I would make sure u get all your mods done first and then get it retuned (cheaper than going back for retuned for each new mod). So, for now just babie it without boosting or u going to blow it in no time.

^ What you mention is fully understood. MY hope is that there are some mods that I can remove to create a hospitable environment for my tune. I realize that all my mods will lean it out and so slowly I will try to remove the mods that I think I frankly do not want any longer. If that requires that I remove my non-revup lower plenum and my 5/16" spacer then so be it.

I currently don't want to drop the $600-800 on a tune and want to use the tune that already came with my vortech.

My plan is as follows: remove the non-revup lower plenum to put back the revup lower plenum, remove the 5/16" spacer, remove my nismo headers, remove my nismo catback exhaust.

I'll do those one by one until I can reach a safe zone (under 12.0 maximum AFR on WOT) for my vortech setup.

Another theory is also that it is not the mods but rather the fact that I have not had my fuel injectors serviced in the past 55K that may be causing me to be unable to get the amount of fuel needed up top. I'm going to have them serviced tomorrow. The hope is to eliminate as many variables as possible step by step.

ouch, is the car still running even? sounds like something was installed improperly. car should run rich the whole way. i have installed many many full kits.

here, go to vortechs main site and watch our video how to do it correctly and receive a 3 year warranty.... www.vortechsuperchargers.com

I had the fuel injectors serviced today (as well as have the infiniti dealer tighten my belts) then did a few test passes in 4th gear.
I haven't datalogged them with my cipher cable yet but I did use my PLX wideband to watch it carefully the entire time...

hooray!!!

car runs rich the whole way now. I run AFRs between 10.5 and 11.0 the entire time all the way up. I'm going to do a datalogged run at a dyno here in town later this afternoon to get more data and be certain that everything is ok.

thank you all for your help so far.

new dyno just done today after cleaned fuel injectors.

Blue = run after just driving there. AFRs ran up to a high of 12.23.
Red = run after allowing engine to cool for about 20 minutes AFRs ran up to a high of 12.5.
Green = run about 5 minutes following the 2nd run. AFRs ran up to a high of 11.92

These AFRs are not off of the reading on the graph but rather off of my Cipher cable. The ones on the graph show the following:
Blue = high of 11.5
Red = high of 12.5
Green = high of 12.0

Overall I'm pleased with the tune that Vortech has provided. I know some finer tuning will probably allow me to take on increased power but that will undoubtedly require larger injectors ($700 installed), larger in-tank fuel pump ($200 installed), and finally an alternate method of engine management ($700-2000) with tuning ($800-1500)

That means anywhere from $2400 - $4400 more to get the car to a higher level which at this time I'm not prepared to do.

I'm having some problems with the filter being squished so that may be the next step is to find a more proper place for it sicne the AC lines, although already moved a bit, are giving problems crushing the filter.

for some reason these numbers are different when I pulled them up at home then when Carboy printe them out for me.

On the printout I'm showing
Blue = 317.8 = MAX Power ; 290.1 = Max TQ
Red = 318.5 = MAX Power ; 295.3 = Max TQ
Green = 317.5 = MAX Power ; 285.7 = Max TQ

The same with the intiial dyno. It was showing 322.xx = MAX Power ; 290.xx = MAX TQ .

It must be the settings I'm using in my WinPEP program that is causing me to show different values.

I figured out that it was because I wasn't using any correction. got it fixed now:
