Oh sure..they are using the VQ30 and then turbo charging it. If you check out the JGTC web site and look at the entry list, they show you what engines are being used, what car is entered, and by what team. In fact, for Round 1 of the JGTC, the Xanavi Nismo GT-R broke the track record for qualifying with a scorching time of 1'24.670". The last time a Skyline got pole position in qualifying was back in 1995, so I think the VQ is already proving itself to be a devastating weapon on the track. Check it out in detail below at the following links:

Entry list with all of the VQ skylines can be found here:

The end result of the record breaking qualifying VQ Skyline can be found here:

Inline 6's have proven over and over again to be very strong motors FI or NA... Look at the M3, or the Supra 2JZ-GTE and the Nissan RB... the 2JZ-GE (Non turbo supra engine) is still used in the Lexis IS300. There are a bunch of aftermarket turbo kits available for the IS and the motor handles the power very well. I wonder why auto manufactures have not been using inline 6's anymore? I guess its because V6's can fit into more applications. Look at the VQ it’s in almost every Nissan Infiniti car produced...

I'm gonna guess it's because cars are not the hot sellers they were in the mid 90's, it's all about SUV's and family sedans, and I doubt I6's can fit in a FWD car. Also, there are not a "bunch" of aftermarket turbo kits out for the 2JZ-GE, which is also in the Lexus SC300 and GS300, there are two, at the most.

eskimo- here are two turbo kits for the IS300, and that is just one manufacturer - Link

Do a little research and I am sure you will find quite a few more, especially, if you look at all 2JZ-GE applications.

There was a Japanese company that ran at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb with a 350Z with a ~600hp RB26 with AWD. At one point they were rumored to have had some heat issues, but all the parts fit. Since the chassis was designed for AWD from the get go it makes the conversion easier, albeit not easy.

I am one of the non-purists that would love to see a company come up with a viable swap that wasn't too outrageous in cost. Especially if they would sell the custom pieces needed for the DIYers or other shops to do it.

Then again, a Turbo'ed VQ with AWD would be But that would be a R35 GT-R (maybe)

Do you have a link or any more information on the Japanese company that ran the PP hill climb with an AWD RB 350Z?

I have read that V6 engines perform better in crash test then Inline 6's do. Because the I6 is longer I guess.

I love the I6 in my M3 allot more than my VQ engine. I6's sound great and have a sewing machine like smoothness. I'm sad to see the RB engine is not going to be used anymore, but I'm happy to hear the VQ is doing so well.

Alright alright, good call , I'll admit I only knew of those available to the earlier 2JZ-GE application (NA MKIV, Boost Logic and FMAX), hadn't looked into kits specifically for the IS, jumped to the conclusion that if they sold the kit for one they'd sell the kit for the other, as the primary difference from my observations is the ECU placement and emissions technology, and possibly VVT-I (I don't know much about the IS300 in particular). Sorry.
