Anybody with ATI need to ask something about the Aeromotive FMU.

I hooked it up i just want to know if it powers up.

Is there a Light that comes on or does it kick on when you are driving..

I am confused i think i have one that is not working...

The car is finished but I will not drive it untill i know about this..

There is no light. The way I tested it is I hooked up a vacuum hose to it and then blew into the hose with my mouth. The best I could get was the third LED to light up. I actually had a competition with myself to see if I could get it to five lights, but ended up passing out from hyperventilation. j/k

I'm probably gonna wire up an LED to my dash somewhere to light up when it applies power to the aux fuel pump. That way I know it is still running. Unfortunately you've got no indicator if there is no boost detected on the vacuum line.

Ohhh one more important thing. When you blow into the line you should be able to hear the aux fuel pump kicking in if it's close to you. If not have somebody listening to it when you blow into it.

does the Aux fuel pump always on? or does it use like a hobbs switch that senses boost and then turn on?

Ches, it is NOT always on. And is off untill it senses boost. Once boost is achived then the Aeromotive box varys voltage to the pump, based on the boost signal, and scaler settings. I almost always end up changing the slider settings, and scaler settings to my liking. Not to say anything is wrong with ATI's, but the cars I have done and helped with, were not bone stock.

The LED is a good idea for the dash, just as a peice of mind, to know something is happening. Though if you have a FP guage, it's pretty easy to see that everything is go.

For the people that haven't installed a ATI yet, and are looking at doing so. I have one MAJOR suggestion.

Make the wires for the FMU LONG! that way on your first test drive, or dyno session. You can have the box sitting in your passangers lap, so you can make on the Fly adjustments. Then once you are done, just tuck the extra wire away nice, with some zip ties and wire loom. If you leave it short you will have to put the pass sear forward, and always pull over to make changes.

It only turns on when the FMU senses boost. There is a one way bypass valve for the times it is not on boost and the car operates off the stock fuel pump.

... the reason why asking is, when my SC was boosted for the maxima, i had the same aux fuel pump setup-- only on when boosted... but sometimes when i was on the throttle and let off and hit it again, the car lagged/didnt go anywhere-- i.e. no more fuel, then it would kick in and the car would go.

just curious if it was the same setup... or had similar problems.. thanks for the info SVT

haven't had any problems yet. As soon as the FMU detects boost, it supplies a variable voltage to the aux fuel pump depending on how you have the FMU. It seems pretty foolproof to me. unless your boost line gets damaged in some way.

The ATI version has a "loop" so to speak built into it, so that the fuel is right there, and not dumping back to the tank (returnless system anyways) The only time the system seems to depress. is when the car is off.

Is the Maxima a returnless system? Was it just a inline pump? With a single switch? So when you had boost, it just turned on to raise volume and no pressure. Since I assume it just used the stock regulator. Or what? If so I could see that having the issues that you speak of. The ATI version isn't like those, and seems to work rather well for some simple engineering.

You can PM me the details, if you don't feel like hijacking this thread.
