My gauge choices for FI (ATI)
Ok, some people are wondering what gauges are recommended when you run forced induction, such as the ATI Procharger. There are a lot of factors involved in deciding what to run, but for me one of the big issues is space required for mounting. I will be installing my gauges in the currently unoccupied nav opening in the dash.
Parameters you most likely want to monitor are air/fuel ratio, exhaust gas temp, fuel pressure, and boost pressure.
A/F ratio is nice to have for detecting rich or lean conditions, but a real wideband sensor setup is very expensive. A good alternative is an EGT gauge which gives a relative indicator of rich/lean conditions. This means you can tune the car initially with a wideband meter, then use an EGT gauge to establish a reference point for EGT at the proper A/F ratio. This is the route I'm going for now, and I plan to pick up a Greddy EGT warning meter when I go get my car tuned. To me, the EGT is an absolute must have, and the Greddy unit can be programmed to warn you when the temps get too high.
I also want to keep an eye on fuel pressure, and boost pressure would be nice too. Normally this would require two separate gauges, and would likely not fit in the nav compartment with the 60mm EGT gauge already there. What I need is a single gauge to read both, so I'm installing a SPA digital dual readout gauge. Rather than using a dial with a needle, it simply has two digital readouts to show the pressures I need to read. This gauge also has the same built in funcitons the Greddy warning meters have, alarm output and peak recall.
So these gauges should provide enough information to safely run forced induction, and troubleshoot problems easily if they arise. I'm also thinking ahead about using the warning output on the EGT gauge to automatically cut the throttle for a short time period. Since the 350z uses fly by wire for the throttle, it may be possible to interrupt the control circuit using a normally closed relay so the throttle position is reduced when EGT readings get too high. This takes the human reaction time to a warning light out of the equation, but I don't know yet that this is a feasible idea.

get a camp system and have it run through your lcd screen (if you have one). you can have all sorts of guages...and they will all show up on the lcd screen. waaaayyyy cooler than adding more pods (in my opinion).
Yeah, the CAMP system looks pretty nice, but the cost gets up there if you don't already have a screen. It looks like you'd have over 900 in the system not including the cost of the screen just to monitor boost, fuel pressure, and EGT. Definitely a trick setup though.
I found the camp system for way less than $900.00. It is only $289.48 plus the screen. I think that is the way I will go since I have the Alpine 760 screen with aux inputs.

Well, the CAMP system by itself is cheap. The problem is you still need the junction box and the sensors to measure boost, fuel pressure, and EGT. The CAMP system does not monitor these without spending more money. That all has to be included in the price, and that's where my $900 estimate comes from.
My estimated cost breakdown was:
CAMP system - 275
Junction box - 300
Boost sensor and harness - 130
Fuel pressure sensor and harnes - 110
EGT sensor and harness - 130
Total = 945
You might find better prices, but 900 is about the best you'll do.

but.....if you are spending 6K on a supercharger...spend the 900 on the system to get rid of the stupid pod look. this will look 100 times better!
I agree, the camp system does look a lot better. But, since I can fit the gauges I need in the nav compartment, I can always close the door so they aren't visible when I don't need them. And I spend 1/3 as much to get what I need. Personally, I wouldn't spend that extra money for something that really doesn't serve my needs any better. If I had to run gauge pods I'd have to reconsider, but in this case it just isn't worth it to me.
I'd spend the extra 1k on "zing" rather than "bling"!

but, yeah, if your nav spot is open....use the pod and build something. i have a lcd in there...so, i'd go for the camp system (also, my vendor would love to put it all in my car. haha). but, until i get the procharger or a twin turbo set up (first the engagement ring for my girlfriend comes....then more car toys...or she'll go even more bonkers! haha)...no need for the camp system or pods on my car!

but, i'd go for the bottom ones...like vic said....they look like the stock ones (well, at least the one on the far left in our cars)

With the appropriate additions, can this be run through the factory NAV system?
If so, would you be able to toggle between "gauge view" and "NAV view"? And how?
I like the idea of having the interior uncluttered and this option seems ideal (even at the extra cost). If I can't do this, I'll probably go with hidden gauges ala Doc Bonz's ATI install.

i believe the camp system will work with any lcd screen. just like if you hooked up a dvd player to the existing nav system. call up my vendor at 617-738-2888. talk to joe about it. he's the one who has it in his car. let him know that david kern (me) send you.
thanks and keep me posted as to what he says...i'd like to know myself.
i'm in the midst of cleaning up his old web site and redoing it to make it more user friendly and focused to the z. i am going to do all teh internet marketing and sales and whatnot. so, whatever everyone wants to see...let me know...i'll have it.
but, give joe a call...he's an awesome guy!
thanks,
djk
edit....i talked to joe and he basically said that if the factory LCD has a video input, you will be able to do it....if there is no video input, you can't. someone would have to check and see if there is an input. you would need other converters....which he doesn't sell. the converter might be over 1000 bucks. so, you would need an aftermarker lcd in the nav spot.

of you are running a ps2 on the stock nav....i would think that you would be able to. when you put the ps2 in, did you have to connect anything to the lcd screen? if so, you would know if there was a video out (or in, i'm not sure) spot...which could be used for the camp system.
