Exclamation MAF sensor for FI. HELP!

Hello!

I do have 350Z turbonetics ST, it works well on cold, but after some cruising engine could stop (after high rpm). On local Nissan dealers told that MAF sensors got high temperature and begin not work well, and fuel get too reach, and engine stops. They suggest changing MAF sensor. But from other side new MAF also could get overheated. Please advice maybe I should get some aftermarket sensor? Or stock will work well? Or problem not in MAF? HELP!!!

Thanks,
Nikolay

Sounds like your intercooler may not be working too well if the MAF sensor is getting that hot. You may want to check your intake air temperature and make sure your intercooler is getting adequate air flow.

On the JWT turbo kits, the MAF sensor housing goes before the turbos. I am not sure whether you can move the housing on your setup, but it might be worth looking into.

I do have good aftermarket blanket, and all pipes heat taped. And intercooler on place - mean it works, because it exist Sure is good idea to measure air temperature. But if problem not common, then probably its just bad MAF - could happen with any MAF, not really depend from FI. Nissan specialist also told, that could be better to relocate MAF to intake, before turbo. Not really sure that its rigth.

The only real issue that I see is that if your EMS is a piggy-back unit that still relys on the ECU for some of the engine management functions, you might need to add an intake air temperature sensor between the intercooler and the throttle body since the stock intake air temperature sensor is integrated into the MAF sensor housing.

Nonetheless, you are probably better off taking your car to a VQ35 tuner who is knowledgeable about your particular turbo system. Perhaps a good tuner can resolve your issues without getting in too deep.

Is the motor shutting off after wide open throttle (WOT) runs? What are you using for engine mgmt - reflash, utec or stand alone EMS? It could be that you need your idle adjusted to appx 1K if you have the utec or reflash. Also, what size injectors are you running?

Lastly, do NOT listen to dealership solutions. Most of them have no idea what to do when it comes to F/I. Tell us what state you are in and I'm sure you will be directed to the closest Z/G specialty shop that is known and trusted by forum members. Chances are your problems could be solved by a phone conversation with the right shop.

Thanks, I'm also think same way. I'm using Turbonetics reflash, and Yes motor is shutting after WOT runs. Injectors are also by Turbonetics - 380cc.

I would happy to came some dealer, but couldn't physically. Could recommend any specialists tune distantly?

That is a tough one. It would be hard for them to diagnose your problems remotely without seeing your car. Nonetheless, here are some reputable tuners that I know of in alphabetical order:

Forged Performance (GA)
GT Motorsports (CA)
Injected Performance (KY)
Japtrix (FL)
Sound Performance Racing (IL)

You should pick the one closest to you, or do some research on another reputable VQ35 tuner that is close to you, and take your car there. Otherwise, you may have a difficult time resolving your problem...
