I think I will end up with the Pillar pod. Still not 100% sure. In the next couple of days I'll be pulling all the wires and vacuum hose though. I will leave plenty slack just in case I figure something else out.
Where do you guys pull the wires through for the pillar pods? By that I mean how do you get them through the dash? Getting them in the cabin is not a problem.
Is it possible to pulle them through here (yellow circle)?

So I moved to the Haltech, a few pictures of the dual 02 sensor conroller installed. I had to cut the wiring harness (five wires) because it would be very difficult to pull the harness with connectors attached through the fire wall. The conroller has 5 wires going to the Haltech so a cat 5e cable was pefect for the job.
Here you can see the relay wired and mounted for the scavenge pump:

This is really all that will be visible. The two connectors will just dropp down and connecto to the O2 sensors.

Tommorow I will mov inside and start pulling the pannels appart and start the Haltech install. It should be sraight forward. I have also been working on some sort of a skid plate just under the turbo, I will post pics when it's done. Maybe tommorow night, I will see how the day goes.

As promised, turbo guard/skit plate. This was made out of some 1.5" and 1.25" square tubing as well as 1.5" angle. Took me a while to figure out how I'm going to accomplish this task, but in the end I think it will work just fine.

I just have to paint the frame now, and that will be it for under the car. Next week I willl put it back on the ground and work on the injectors and Haltech. I really don't feel like doing the injectors, but I guess I don't have a choice.

WOOOW is all i have to say! you are the man... I was one of the first people to post on this thread when you started it. All i can say is good job! cant wait to see it all done. will you post up a final cost when you are finished? Just so we can see what kind of money you saved..

Well I can tell you that right now. Everything is esentially done, so I don't need to buy anything else. The total for this build is just under $2700 US, this includes shipping for all items from US. I didn't buy anything locally, do to price. This is with slightly used injectors, but everything else in brand new. This ofcourse does not include the $2000 Haltech and dual widebands/controller.
So if one was to go with a UTEC (used), this kit would be about $3200k for a DIY'er. Under $3k for a US resident, becaue of savings on shipping. Not to mention that most people pay somebody else to install their kits, that's another few $$$.
I see that the cheapest turbo kit for the Z (Turbonetics) is about $4900 on ebay with a reflash, and I think this is much better than Turbonetics. IAT's is where this kit will shine, I think.

Today I put an aluminium plate on the skid frame. I am really not sure if I will leave it on there. Now with the skid plate there, it becomes the closest part to the ground. It is about 3/8" lower than the rear skid plate, this one:

At this point I really don't know what to do, leave it on or take it off. Like mentioned, it is now 1/2" lower than the rear skid plate. With it off, the turbo is about 1/4" higher than the rear skid plate. I really don't think the turbo will EVER hit anything with the guard off.
What do you guys think? I am leaning toward not skid plate..

Fabricate a very thin shield made of wire mesh and a frame made of sheet metal.
I mean you want SOMETHING to protect the turbo/oil line. Just use your **** engineering skills and make it as flat as possible.
Also I believe its a good idea to do mesh as it will allow for better temp transfer from the turbo.

What? Who makes sheet metal frames, what would be the point? Frames are made out of angle/square tubing for strength. Wire mesh (if it was to get caught on something) would shread like nothing.
Looks like the skid plate will stay off the car. It's the fugliest thing I have ever made..but that is not why it will stay off.

I was just trying to help.
And actually the mesh I got from Home Depot was so thick that I had to dremel it instead of using shears. It can take medium rock and debris hits no problem. But explaining myself is a moot point since you decided against the skid plate.

I have been buisy with some other stuff, painting bumper and fender on my moms car. Hit and run in a parking lot, bastards. I also did a thural cleaning of the garage, it was very messy and I just can't work like that.
Nothing really new with the Z. For some reason I just don't feel like taking the IM off and installing the injectors/spark plugs, don't really know why. Haltech still has to be installed, and that's about all really. I decided not to go with a skid plate, so will see how that works out. I also have to install a fuel pump, it will be a walbro inline because I got it a long time ago for really cheap. So about a days worth of work.
I have also been doing plenty of searchin on the best crankcase ventilation setup, seems like there are a few options. I think I will just run some tubing from the turbo intake to a catch can, and then from the catch can to the crankcase. That's the last thing I need to get, I think.
I am also waiting for some rims and tires now, got some S5:F's with 295/30/09 PS2's in the rear (wife is very excided about these). That should help with traction, so once those are on I will get it out of hybernation and start tuning. We still have plenty of snow on the ground, so again not really in a rush.
