rear-mounted turbo, single turbo or vortech
STS i think is going to be your best single turbo option as far as price, and reliability (lower IAT's) on a stock block. Ran mine for over 25k hard driven miles and loved it.
I am happy overall with my STS kit. Ground clearance is a pain but if 400hp is what you want than its a good route. I daily drive mine and have had no problems with stock block
I lost 3 blowers with the Vortech in less than 5k....bad bearings. Power was not all that great IMO with the Vortech. Switched to STS....power is great and product is well built. BUT, FI is going to be hard on you stock motor no matter what....keep that in mind. The FI experience is like a drug.....the power is addicting and you can't or won't go back....even after you scatter your stock motor. With my kit, Labor, and eventual full motor build after I blew mine all to hell I have 22k into my drivetrain. Not to be a bummer, just food for thought.
03 CS 350Z 6MT (new cd009), GTM built long block, STS turbo kit with upgrade 60-1 trim, Berkley HFC's, motordyne spacer, Light flywheel and 6 puck cluthch, Koyo radiator, nismo oil cooler, Osiris tune,....................and a bunch of crap I can't remember at 5:30 in the morning. Good luck.

There are other options as well.....

Doesn't the STS kit come in at $6k?

I’m aware it’s not an option listed in the OP’s original post…BUT, I’d like to reiterate what a few others have said…PowerLab GT35R kit! It’s obviously going to be a little more than an STS kit but it has so much more potential.
Also, I helped justify it to myself by thinking about the resale value of the kit; if I ever decided to sell my G coupe I shouldn’t have too much trouble selling a used PowerLab kit for a decent price (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a used kit go up for sale though…which says something about the kit IMO).

im happy with my vortech but my advice to you is go with the power lab kit. i am sick of throwing money into this car so i am sticking with my current setup. i have better things to do with my money than dump it into something that will have no financial return.
Driving the Z is still fun as hell

OP, you should also look into Boosted Performance's midmount turbo kit, well thought out kit...
