Default Removal Of The EVAP System

Has anyone removed the EVAP system from their cars? I'm looking for sh*t to get rid of from the engine bay and that is at the top of my list for clutter removal. I want to remove the valve on the back of the plenum and all the plumbing back to the charcoal canister and vent to the atmosphere from the cannister.

I don't care about illegal. I drive my car on the track. I have the CEL illuminated for the last 4 years.

Ours hasn't been hooked up for some time. CEL is all you'd have to really worry about. You may get some additional fuel smell while in the garage but thats about the extent of it.

They removed mine too. you get a code, and if the car is parked for like 2 days you'll have a fuel smell.....I just leave my windows open a crack or the sunroof open so it doesn't stay in the car.

Just wrip everything out of there, and plug any leftover hoses. Start from the engine bay, and work your way back. Very easy. Just start pulling stuff out.

I am going to do mine, this weekend. Are you guys also pulling the carcoal canister in the rear totally off? or just letting it vent?

After seeing this I think I may do mine now also. I have my entire engine harness open right now for a wire tuck and that is one of the plugs I want to remove. I think I will do it this weekend if all it causes is a CEL and a little smell.

Has anyone actually removed the canister and the lines?

Where is the fuel smell coming from? The canister?

No charcoal canister here, lines gone too (well think we are using stock feed as the fuel return now).....

Removing the charcoal canister is what causes the smell of the fumes. That canister is there for that exact purpose. Like I said, I just crack my windows or leave the sunroof open so the smell doesn't hang inside the car (I'm guessing you monkey's have these cars parked in a garage of some sort).

My CEL for the evap is about the EVAP sensor not ready

Looks like it is coming out for sure this weekend Is the canister basically a fuel tank vent?

I'm not positive on it but yes. I wasn't there when it was removed.

I believe the vent from the tank goes to the canister, then the canister vents to atmosphere.

the canister contains activated charcoal to scrub the fuel vapors and eliminate the odors.

I think it's time for a new canister in my car. you can smell an old gas smell coming from the charcoal canister whenever my gas tank is low.

very wierd, but that's the only time I smell gas.

Maybe for simplicity I will just remove the portion that goes into the engine bay for now and decide what to do with the rest later.

Quamen I think I am right there with you on that one, this weekend all the under hood stuff will be coming out, then later I can decide to pull out the rest if need be.

Is there a problem with plugging the evap hose comming off the tank? There is already a vent that goes up to the filler, so I'm hoping that would vent fine. Hope nothing catches on fire...
