Question Built motor question?

Hey guys just wanted to know if there are any vendors here that would possibly send a fully built engine. By fully built i mean past the long block stage also. so basically with cams/valve cover and timing cover on. Is there a reason that no one does this?

In all reality you should contact the vendors. Yes they do all offer short and longblocks for sale.

Core charge (if you don't send your motor) will be higher for a long block naturally.

Most shops stick to their favorites for bottom end components, but once you get into head/cam packages there about about another 15 options.

So give them a call and price out what you want for your goals

Sound Performance, Forged, GTM, Injected, Intense....those are the first that pop into my head.

XKR makes up for all of them. And while I wouldn't use the word "retard" per se, I do recognize that there exists a significant cohort of enthusiasts that have a superficial understanding of what's involved in building up these cars. Managing unrealistic expectations can certainly be challenging for shop owners. On the other hand, by the end of the process, the education imparted is one of the oft unrecognized benefits. Considering that as you scrutinize the invoices minimizes the discomfort as you explain to your spouse why your monthly AMEX bill is a five digit figure.

I don't know what to do with myself and all these helpful posts. I've done all my own work to my car, my motor blew, I recently moved and don't have garage space, and was looking to drop my new motor in right in and was wondering why I haven't seen it. sorry for the ignorant question I asked out of my 300 posts. I'm sure out of 20k posts you don't have one retarded question. You gotta ease up.

It wasn't a retarded question, but consider this: you install your brand new spanking long block from [insert reputable shop name here] and you send the car to your tuner for tuning and the car doesn't make power. What are you going to do then? Blame the tuner, the installer (yourself), or the builder? You get a ticking noise after a few thousand miles? Your UOA comes back poor? You blow a headgasket in a few months?

Hoping for the best is fine, but with FI you've got to plan for the worst. Send your car to Forged Performance (or whatever shop you have researched and trust) and let them take care of the block, install, and tuning. The end result will be a perfect product by a shop that will back up their work because their reputation is built on this kind of consistency.

Good luck (and keep in mind that shipping your car off is a minimal price to pay for the peace of mind this type of arrangement entails).

^^ +1 on what RC said... Just send your car to a shop, and have them do everything in house. Less finger pointing should anything go wrong.

QFT!!! OP, get everything done by one reputable shop who will back up their work if something goes wrong. its worth the extra $1000 that it takes to truck your car off and back.

After going down the shop road, Id be hesitant to do it again. I'd prolly take on the venture myself, because even when 1 shop only does it, you still pay dearly for fixes-even with hookups. In the other position, you just redo it all yourself again-MUCH LESS $$$$$. I can see both sides of this...

alright alright. Yes I installed my own bolt on turbo kit and all the supporting mods. Yes i had it tuned by a reputable tuner, and the tune was even looked over by injected and they thought it looked great.

https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...to-greddy.html

I was running 110 octane and 12+ psi ( my choice). I live in New England in October the weather gets colder and denser. Long story short the car was making to much power, it threw a Rod through every piece of aluminum that nissan had to offer.

I am looking to get my car back on the road and am going for my first build

My OP was looking to really see if anyone had gotten a complete engine shipped from a vendor and if their were pro and cons to doing it.

I know many vendors offer long and short blocks and their prices. I was really wondering if i could get a more complete setup. By saying that i meant with cams already installed/shimmed and timing chain together and with cover already on. The reason i asked if because i know shortblocks are the most popular option. I did not know if there was reason for this. like thom said probably just weight issues

when it is time to build my second built motor i will not be blaming or pointing. I dont know why anyone would i love fi its the abusive gf i just cant leave.

im outta space and running out of time so i was looking for a drop in option seeing if anyone had gone that route. If a great shop was down the street it would def be a viable option i understand the pro and cons.
