Wink Pulled the motor this weekend. Uh-ohh...

Everything looked good except on coil pack 5 was some oil. I'm doing a compression test tonight to see if its the rings, what else could it be that would leak oil and isolate it only in cylinder 5? If it were the valve cover gasket wouldnt there be oil on all the coils in that bank? Are there individual o-rings? I misplaced my spark plug socket so I couldn't pull out the plugs yet. Mind you, this was not a little moisture. There was enough oil on the lower inch of the coil to form droplets...

Thanks. I'm pretty mechanically competant but I just don't have a lot of experience on this **** yet. That takes time...

This is a known issue with the Vq35de motors .

All you needs is a new Valve cover.
The coil pack tunnel on the Valve cover has individual O-rings and have been known to let go one at a time

the valve covers act as the o rings and are on their itself. You will need new valve cover(s).

as the others have sadi, there is a seal around each spark plug tube. they are IRREPLACABLE. if you have a leak, you need to buy a new valve cover.

If the oil is on the coil pack and upper half of the spark plug (Not the part that threads into the head) then it's just an o-ring on the valve cover.

If your spark plug tip (The part that threads into the head) is foul'd with oil, then you have other issues.

Thank you for clarifying. That seems to be the case as of current. Is there a more specific part name for said o-ring?

As they said, the O-ring is part of the valve cover. You cant get just the O-ring.

you can actually just use a little rtv silione on the o ring area instead of replacing the whole valvecover

At least use the "gray" silicone so it can handle the heat.

you dont have to silicone the **** out of it, just a thin layer would do. You dont want a bunch of silicone boogers getting into the head if you ever have to take it off

Exactly, I had leakage into on the the spark plug tubes on my stock motor, when I built the motor I put a little silicone on the valve cover ring and it hasn't leaked again.

one thing everyone should keep in their house is the nissan orange silicone. Ive used this on turbos and exhausts and even wastegates and it holds up.
