Has anyone removed the MAF on the VQ35 and depended mostly on a AIT Sensor?
What CEL do you throw?
Where and How do you mount your AIT sensor?
or can someone with a reader disconnect their MAF and tell
me what CEL do you throw. Preferably a Revup motor 6MT
but any will do
Thanks In Advance

I just had this done and I ended up leaving the MAF in there (it's just zip tied in the engine bay).. I kept getting 'not ready' for readiness codes.. After putting it back in didn't get any codes for readiness yet.. Still not sure if that was the reason.
I did put the AIT sensor in also.. it's welded into the piping.
I figured I'd keep both... just thought it was too much of a hassle to figure out because I need to past inspection here haha.
If anyone does it successfully post it up.

Down_Shift I'm looking at the Haltech Instructions for installing a AIT.
I figured if you cut those 2 wires to splice in the AIT per Haltech instructions
wouldn't you still get a CEL.
Very interesting to know that you can install a AIT and leave the MAF as is and not get any CEL and be good in the readiness code.
The readiness is a big thing for me since in my state its OBDII not exhaust sniffer inspection.
Reason I'm asking is cause I'm sending out my ECU and want whatever CEL I would encounter removed
but not at the price of readiness.

My AIT sensor is spliced into the Haltech. The MAF is in there just to keep the ECU happy.
Your reasoning is the same reason I did mine the way I did!

Yes Hal told me the 2 wires I need to splice into.
Did you do at the MAF connector is what I'm asking?
Where are guys installing their AIT sensors?
I know most have said in the neck of the upper plenum
just want to see exactly how far or how close to the throttle body.

I put my air temp sensor into the neck of the plenum. Just need a 3/8" NPT tap... You want it as close to the intake valves as possible, but getting enough airflow and not falsely heated from surrounding engine heat.

Thanks RCdash
I haven't installed my CJM return system yet and I was measuring to see where the sensor would go and it was not clearing the dome like regulator that is part of the oem fuel system.
Now that you showed me a picture I had it placed correctly.

I removed the MAF sensor. I am using a MAP sensor instead. We have an option output voltage from the F-CON to feed into the factory ECU to simulate a MAF sensor. Also, I had my ECU re-flashed. With this configuration, I did not get a CEL.
(B) you have a 6MT, so you're MAF isn't used by the transmission. On the 5AT, the signal it sends tells the trans what the load is coming through from the engine.
A+B = forced to retain MAF even though it just sits there obstructing airflow.

(A) you live in FL and are sooo lucky to have easy emission regs. You don't have to worry about "not ready" status indicators. Although it sounds with the FCON trick and ECU flash you may be ok? Not sure about SRT status 100% with MAF disconnected as it wasn't an option for me.

+1 on that..
A Reflash to get rid of a CEL DOES NOT mean you will pass emissions!!
i had my AIT for my FCON on the side of the plenum by the brake booster hose for years.
Does the haltech have a voltage output like the FCON that you can use to emulate the MAF sensor and remove it (what i did)?

My understanding is that it can modify an existing signal and send it back out to the stock ECU. But with no sensor at all, I don't think it is programmed to simulate a non-existant MAF. Hal would know for sure... I needed to have it in place for my 5AT TCM, so I didn't really pursue it.
