Default compression and turboing the Z

Hey guys im new and I dont own a Z.Actually I worked with a guy that has one and we were discussing the greddy TT kit.I seen that the 3.5 motor was 10.6-1 compression.

My question is what do you guys do to combat detonation?
Timing? Fuel? Low boost? or

Just so you know I drive a lightning and also have a turboed mustang.

By the way I never really paid much attention to them til I started working with him. After lurking for a few weeks I have to say I am really impressed with the performance of the Z,but dang it man parts are expensive.

welcome to the forums but your gonna get bashed really quickly if you dont do your research check out the shop build threads and youll see what the average setup on a stock blocker is. but heres what youll need to have a good stock block powered car:

The greddy kit is a great kit with quick spooling turbos for stock block while they offer plenty of head room for more power. in regaurds to your question the one weak point of the vq is the rods. you can make alot of power on the stock pistons but the rods will be the first to go. 400rwhp has been the accepted limit of a reliable setup but there are a few cars with a little more than 400 that are still running strong. it is all in the tune. as far as parts go you are going to want to ditch the emanage blue that comes with the kit because of the fact that it has poor control over timing which could cause the car to knock and kill the rod quickly. a good choice for the money and a stock blocker is a turboxs utec which is a parallel ecu. youll also want to get a fuel return and a walbo fuel pump and your pretty much good to go. hope that answers all your questions you had.

most built boosted setups run 9.5. what exactly are your goals? whaty kinda of power are you looking for? is this gonna be a stright weekend monster/daily..all depends.

I suppose a combination of all of the things you listed. Because of the high compression the motor responds well to boost and makes good power on low boost such as 6-12psi. A proper dyno tune is key for mapping fuel and ignition to optimize power and maintain safety/reliability.

Off topic, details on turbo mustang?

I'd say the 650+rwhp guys have all dropped compression to the 8's.....myself included at 8.5:1

you will make a lot more power with more boost potential than with the 1 point increse in compression.
