Default What do you think of this build

I haven't decided what I want to do yet.. I'm thinking build now, and buy/install the turbo January next year when i get my bonus.I cant afford to do both at once, and sure as hell am too scared to run a turbo without building my block, so that is why I am considering this route.

Arias Pistons
Eagle Rods
Bearings and thrust washers

and thats it for my block...

Then in january have all this installed:

Powerlab full kit
AEM Eugo
Defi Boost

Suggestions? I am shooting for 420whp.. safely on my block.

for 420hp why build? And i have been talking to JT about a PL kit and umm i think im taking a diff route bc its so expensive. U can go Greddy TT for cheaper but labor will be more so it will pretty much be the same but u have more high HP ability going twin compared to a GT35r.

Im only doing pistons and rods and its mainly because I need the piece of mind and security of knowing I wont throw a rod through my block and have to fork up money for a new engine... This build only costs me 3600 OTD, thats what it costs to buy a used engine and install it. I really don't want to risk it. Plus I can turn up the boost later, or run another map for 500whp..

Go turbo first. or save it up untill you ready and do it at all one time.

Fixed: opps, i just read your budget... but.....save up more go turbo first.

+1 Go turbo first. Just run low boost, like 6 pounds with a good conservative tune and you'll be set. Then buy a spare block with the new internals for when you're ready to make more power. But that's me. Good luck!

I would recommend getting a good fuel return set up too.

Personally i would just put the turbo(s) on it now, however i do respect you wanting to make sure the motor will hold the power. If you are going to build it before you do the turbo kit, then i would agree to wait and do it all at once. Most of the turbo kits have parts that will be much easier to install w/ the engine out, which will most likely save you some install money or at least time if you are doing it yourself. Another thing is that you will be putting mileage on your built engine for no reason, save the parts for when you really need it, and get the most time out of the stock block. Final thing is if you are going to lower compression for more boost, then you are going to have a power loss over stock until you install the turbo kit.

Basic, but workable. I like your thinking...it's a good budget build.

I know that you probably have considered this but... If your looking for safe power, why not go with a vortech? you can even install it yourself and save a bunch there. Im sure you can kit 400whp with the vortech. I was going to build my motor with PL gt37, this spring, but I had to push it off for another time.

Iam in the same boat as you.. I want to hit 380-400whp for now. Iam too considering the vortech.

Good luck with your decision

not always

all sorts of things can still go wrong with a built engine and lots of other factors that can blow any engine

No rod/piston in the world will protect you from a lengthy lean spike or bad overboost
