so from what i recall, once a motor is built, it changes the engines harmonics, and the stock rods and pistons are desinged to be used with the stock harmonic balancer (at least from what i recall from my honda reign). im on a built setup, so would an upgraded one like the fluidampr be necessary (or at least recommended?)?
id prefer to get everything out of the way and taken care of while the motor is out. the last thing id want is to ruin my new motor because of a lack of parts/research, or because of plain negligence lol.

D,
From what I remember reading, for the level you are going for stick with stock balancer/pullies. Folks that went with the aftermarket ones had problems.
As always, just make sure your bottom end is balanced.

I've always used the Fluidampr stuff. Honda, Chevy, Ford, Nissan. Especially if you plan on bumping your revs over stock settings.
Is it required? No. But it's a good preventative measure.

I spent the money on the fluidampner, its not cheap, but worth the piece of mind as the revs grow as UpRev said. The issue with the aftermarket pullies was with the lightweight UR setup, it was causing hairline cracks in the crank over time IIRC.
BTW UpRev, 100+ miles on just the flash right now and no CELs, my gauge looks so empty without it. It was my constant companion when I had the TN reflash with my old setup.

I knew it was something just couldn't remember.
As an obvservation though.....one of the highest revving VQ's and the highest HP one is still on a stock balancer.........

im getting mixed reviews lol. i read about the ur pulleys, and wont touch those, fluidampr seems like another thing to add for safe measure. any other suggestions/opinions?
Everyone I talked too when I checked around voted "YES" to this mod for built motors in general, especially FI.
ATI is what I used. Fluidampr is also good people have reported.

I have been running a one-off supercharger specific Unorthodox crank pulley on my Z. I have only about 350 miles on it but I am working on getting an ATI damper made with the same belt setup as I have.
I would vote the use of a damper. A cheap investment to protect a large investment.
