This is a damn good thread...I know there are some like it but w/ search being a PITA to completely useless these days ...this one needs to stay at the top. I've been debating on doing a Vortech + built motor and then when the time comes I can sell the vortech and buy a turbo kit....I'm debating that....vs buying a powerlab kit from Sound Performance and having them do the install and tuning w/ a ProEFI and JWT flywheel and clutch....then get a built motor next year. The two options I'm debating will cost roughly the same...maybe a little more for the Vortech + built motor option. I really want that powerlab though b/c there aren't many running a powerlab and the capabilities are endless w/ that kit.

do a vortech with 2.87 + built motor and some spray for now and use the spray when u need it...then decide if u would even need to sell it for a turbo kit...ive seen some vortech numbers on spray and seems to be a good combination and gains huge amounts of torque for bottom end...ive even thought of throwing a small shot on now with my stock block to make up torque for when i need it..

powerlab is a nice kit ...very nice kit...huge reason i went vortech was cause i did my own install unlike i would have with a turbo kit...I originally had a used turbonetics kit i bought and then read of all the problems and realized the install was alot more to it than the vortech and sold it to buy a new vortech kit, and figured the vortech would do me good..which i am very happy with my choice...If u are paying either way to have someone else do a install i guess it wouldn't really matter to u with installation..

A built motor on a Vortech is a waste IMO...don't get offended though, I think a built motor is a waste of time and resources on a Turbonetics kit as well

^No I hear ya...but it'd get me by for awhile until I wanted to upgrade to a bigger kit....if I didn't decide to move on to another car by then....who knows. Decisions are a biatch.

a built motor is always a good option for F.I., def. not needed with a good tune on vortech or turbonetics but for peace of mind yes, and for future upgrades if thats the plan..

Totally agreed w/ the above. W/ Vortech's I've heard/seen them bend rods on stock block power...as in 400 hp or so...hell our own Stylin Z bent a rod on SP's dyno (no one was at fault) w/in the last month or so. I mean if I can pick up an Forged Perf. S1 shortblock for 3500, have SP assemble into long block and ship out my old block to FP...then bring her back home...do the Vortech install myself w/ larger injectors and a ProEFI plus the belt slip mod...I think I'm easily in 450 hp which would be enough for me on the street as getting that power to plant will be hard enough. Sure I may wanna turn it up down the road...but it'd be a good way for the Z to pop its FI cherry

**** happens..stock blocks fail sometimes...with a vortech 2.87 and the right combining mods 450whp can easily be obtained and imo a bult shortblock would suit it perfect..and have some room to grow with a different kit in the future or like i said maybe some spray..
