Default FI Roadster Counterweight

If anyone has installed a Vortech in a roadster they know you need to remove the OE "counterweight" for clearance reasons.

Other than slowing the Z down and wasting fuel, does anyone know what function Nissan designed this 40 pound monstrosity to serve?

Debating on what to do with it.

I think its used for weight distribution since the convertible top adds more weight. Thats the only thing that comes to mind if im wrong someone correct me.

Talk about a band-aid approach to weight distribution!

it may not be for weight distribution. I recall ford using some odd weight in their convertible mustangs too. I think it had something to do with the chassis harmonics.

my guess was to aid in factory corner balancing or harmonics as well. there are two in the roadster and i removed both of mine with no noticed ill effects.

Sounds like I need to crawl underneath and find the other one. Any hints?

its in the trunk hiddin in towards the right corner behind all of the plastic trim. its difficult to get out. EXTREMELY. I was stripping my trunk of my Z and found it. I attempted to remove it but it was hald welded half riveted in place. I literally had to cut it out. The front is a simple unbolting but not this one. You'll likely break tabs on that trunk trim too. Be careful and I would let it go if this is not your track car...

To bad Nissan adds all this dead weight but it sounds like I better leave it alone. I assumed the Roadster was heavier than the coupe because of the drop top assy, motor, etc....only to find out they added these boat anchors.

Thanks for the tips.

It is heavier because of that stuff. My top, frame, motors, tonneau motors, and more have all been removed to drop weight. And the car still has a fat ***...
