Default High amp alternator

In case anyone else is looking for one. I was having some voltage drop issues from fans/fuel pumps/ ignition system and bought an alternator from Ohio Generator. They were very helpful and I ended up getting a 170amp unit that could handle the 8000rpm redline of the motor.

It was about $450 shipped. The unit is a direct drop in unit, no modifications are needed to install.

They have higher amp units if you need one.

Gus at Ohio Gen made me a 220amp for my 05 350Z and it was awesome. Is that for a DE motor? I'm thinking I might have Gus build me another altermator for my HR 08 350Z if he can.

Yes but i believe it is only producing that above 5000rpm. I know at 2000rpm the stock alternator is only making about 30amps.

bumping old thread instead of making a new one..

This guy on ebay has a very good rep on the supra forums as well as other platforms.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130469364912

He has a 180A rewound for 200$. Great price with very good warranty. My question is, has anyone seen an underdrive alternator pulley for the FI guys running high rpms.

Like was mentioned in the 1st post, something that spins to 8-8500 rpms causes alot more strain. So slowing down the accessories (esp since most of us run overdrive damper crank pulleys) is a good idea.

So anyone every seen underdrive alt pulleys. UR doesnt make one (or least not on their site. Not looking to pay a ton either

I dont have an answer to your question since I dont know but I have been interested in eagles alternator for a while, however I lost interest when I found these reviews about them: http://www.insiderpages.com/b/371148...ric-northridge

ya thats fine, then i wouldnt take the risk if i was you then. dozens sold to the supra guys and almost perfect 9000 rating on Ebay and 1 year warranty makes me a little more risk taking than yourself. Thats cool.

hopefully someone knows a source of underdrive alt pulleys

I know that Stillen has an alternator pulley in a set, but I suspect that the under-drive is all due to the crank pulley. If you already know this is the case, sorry to waste your time but if you're not sure, I can measure and compare later this week.

So you want to buy a high-output alternator that supposedly puts out 180 amps and then slow it down? Have you confirmed at what rpms that HO is creating that 180 amps of current?

it def wont need 8500 rpms to make 180A. I dont make any power til 5000 rpms (and thusly dont need 80+A for my 5 pumps til after that) and even the crappiest alts make full power by then.

So no reason to super spin the alt when my powerband far exceeds the rpm for max amperage.

I haven't seen anyone mass produce an under-driven alternator pulley for this alternator, but that obviously doesn't mean it's not out there since our alternator is used on several different Nissan VQ powered vehicles. I'd contact Unorthodox Racing directly if I were you as they may know of another pulley application that is interchangeable and would fit the bill. I know the company who made my high-output alternator, Excessive Amperage, has over-driven pulleys that fit our application to accomplish the opposite of your desires.

Ya EA sells overdriven bc their alts are mainly used on car audio applications where you want the most output at idle-ish rpms.

i'll shoot UR a message. Not a huge rush as it will be too cold to run the car that hard for quite a while anyhow

Ohio Generator supplied my HO alt with an underdrive pulley. I can contact them and see.

I will have to find the chart that they gave me but it showed AMPs per motor RPM with the under drive pulley.
