Default hesitation up top around 6k

hey guys, so i figured id post this up to see what some think, maybe make a guessing game out of it but whatever...so i had my car tuned a while ago it was 69 degrees out with like no humidity...now during the hot day when the temp and humidity is up the car runs fine but if i do a pull and i get to 6k in 4th gear and for a split second i can see the rpm's slow down then pick back up...my a/f gauge says im pretty rich so im thinking that after i go get re-tuned i will be fine but idk..i have only changed out high flows for test pipes since being tuned which could have a little affect..also during the day when its hot ill see 8psi maybe touch 9, but at night when its cools down ill see 9psi and touch 10 sometimes and the car will pull hard all the way...so this is why i say its gotta be something in the tune but idk..i know im not getting belt slip so thats ruled out..

i am tuned with ss box which isnt great but gets the job done for now and was told it would adjust for temp..do u think it is pulling timing up top when its hott or sensing knock? i dont hear any knock or anything out of the ordinary...hopefully soon to be fixed once the rain goes away and i get to the city for a new tune..throw the ideas out there guys..peace

once in a while it will do it in 3rd too at 6k if its really hot out, but always right at 6k rpm, so seems like a stumble in the tune

ngk iridium 1 step colder only 4k miles on them now...i thought of that first but then when it didnt do it when the temp cooled back off for night it cancelled that out, plus it runs perfectly fine besides that little studder..

yeah i mean its gotta be...im gonna keep this map saved for beginning of summer temps and night time temps and get a new map for the summer heat that i can switch between...it seems like after the test pipes were put on it started doing it too so that could be a combination of the two ..i even have a new belt and air filter coming to swap in before going to get tuned just to be sure..

yeah when this is happening im seeing mid 10's on the a/f gauge so thats rich for ya, but when the temps cool off im in the 11's and still a little rich at redline usually 10.7-11.0 ish when its cold out but its not really a very steady tune my gauge tells me...its always back and forth from 10's to 11's to 10's as the rpm's go up and builds boost

yep, mine would hit 10.0 at times. car felt slow and sluggish and would hesitate up top. got her tuned and she felt strong again.

Try to do a 6kRPM pull next to a guard rail or wall, and listen to see if it's detonating up there. That, or have someone with a good ear drive next to you. Alternatively, you could put it on the dyno for the re-tune, and put a stethoscope on the block. I've heard detonation this way as well.

You don't want to detonate. Ever if possible. Running a bit rich. I would venture a re-tune should solve those woes. Just re-check your plugs and make sure the gapping is correct just before tuning. (and that they are clean.)

No codes right?

There is a local guy down the road from me with a TN kit and Utec for ems. He has the same problem but it's when it gets cold it runs lean up top. I just added some fuel in the cells up high and his problem is fixed. But on hot days now he said it runs rich. Darn Temp compensation on utec sucks azz.

no codes, and no detonation to speak of, ive had people next to me listen as well...its just in the tune and comes down to the crappy weather and how it has been changing drastically from day time to night time.. the plugs are iridiums and are pre-gapped and like i said only 4k miles on them...and it runs perfectly fine like i said except the stumble at 6k and mainly only in 4th gear or probably higher if i were doing 5th or 6th gear pulls but thats sketchy on the street..

yeah seems thats my problem the temp. compensation on the ss box blows and im tuned for basically cold weather and no humidity, so im gonna save this map and have a new one made for the heat...thanks guys should be fixed soon enough when i get some time off work to get out and get tuned again

that looks ok for the weather. sure you could lean it out some but i dont see it jumping around much. The millisecond jumps in AF is just because you arent tuning every single rpm site.

dont you have the software to tune the ss box yourself? It would take 20 mins to clean that up. very easy

i stumbled across this awhile back and thought of it considering your symptoms (and management)

i have no experience with it other than i know it exists.
