An appointment to get boost, what should I ask ?
I have an appointment on Wednesday with Top Secret Jpn for getting a turbo installation done on my car. Cost is about $7,500 and final power will be around 450hp without any internal engine modifications.
Are their any crucial questions I should be asking them ? Does anyone else have experience with their products, or any turbo systems and is able to offer an insight on what I should look out for ?
Cheers

How will my driveability be affected?
What sort of characteristics will my car exhibit that is different from stock?
Any sort of breakin period?
And you could just say, Hey, anything important I should know about before I go tearing around the island at breakneck speeds?

Interesting, good luck with that. Since it is top secret, I assume the kit will be of good quality, is that 450HP at the wheels?? If so, we have heard many times that there is a limit for the rods around that HP, make sure it is stable and been tested. What boost will you be running?? Will you be getting their plenum?? Will it be a twin turbo?? My first thing woud be reliability at that boost level.

Not sure about if they are talking rwhp or not, one of the questions to ask, along with warrenty etc. 450hp was the maximum for their setup before going into the engine and rebuilding etc, Wednesday will be to talk options. Personally I'll be happy with about 350rwhp if it makes for less risk of engine problems in the future.
Anyways, Top Secret like Veilside are companys that know their stuff and put alot of work into them before the put it out on the street. Camera goes with me on Wednesday in case they have a nice set of showroom cars like Veilside

Ask:
"When will it be available in the US?"
"How much will it be?"
"What does the kit include?"
"How will it compare to the GReddy kit?"
"Turbo lag?"
"Internal Mods?"

I'm planning on doing the same.. about 6 months away, so I'm extremely interested to say the least
as far as questions:
thoughts on mods to strengthen the engine, I'm not inclined to go crazy on HP, but want a strong engine regardless
along the same lines, their thoughts on the necessity of drivetrain upgrades, in particular the clutch

Top Secret Japan, huh? cool
ask them..
1. how will injector flow be controlled
2. what is maximum boost level safely attainable and what safety measures are taken to prevent over boost? is a boost controller included?
3. since you're in japan, their gas is super high octane- ask them if they need to remap the stock ecu-
4. see if they took any measurements of:
- intake temp
- oil temp
- water temp
and post.. i would be eager to see the changes from my baseline measurements..
good luck-

OK, good set of questions, some I'd never even thought of asking. Will find out as many answers as possible. Only problem is the guy I'm dealing with isn't anywhere as good at English as the Veilside guy was. So it will depend alot on my Japanese ability and my ever handy dictionary

Wowsers, as if the language barrier wasn't hard enough already... now you have to talk technical stuff! I believe there are quite a few folks from Japan on these forums. Just a thought, but you might want to see if there is someone in your area that might be willing to go down there with you and be a translator.

OK got all the questions listed and going to set out for there pretty soon. I'm pretty well ok with the language, and actually the more technical something is the easier it is to understand as they use the English words for turbo, intercooler, boost etc.
One thing to note, I guess this setup is for the Japan spec cars only. I got another response last night from Power Enterprise Inc Japan. They will have a system available in December or January, but only for Japanese spec cars, not for US or European versions etc. I guess emissions controls, fuel type etc effects the versions from country to country alot.
