Big Koyo Overheating??
+1 for the lisle funnel. put the funnel in your rad, fill it half way up, turn on car & heat (no A/C), rev to 2000 rpm & hold constant, turn on A/C when fans kick in. Just keep an eye on the coolant level and turn off the car immediately if the funnel starts to overfill (leave funnel in radiator). A few cycles and you're done. Just make sure you get hot air when you turn the heater up to 90 degrees (no A/C) - if you don't then you still have an air pocket. Big ups to Rookie for the procedure on this
I went and picked up my buddies funnel filler thingy, grabbed some distilled/de-ionized $1.99 water from CT and had a crack at it.
Findings;
For some reason I was able to fit nearly half a jug in there; perhaps coolant was low and I just never bothered to fill it up, however there was always some in the over flow tank so I was never alarmed.
The rad has a drain plug (Im sure all do) so I get under the car and take a look and find a drip of coolant on the plug, so I snugged it up about a half turn, maybe it was loose causing me to lose fluids.
As im filling it up Im pouring the water into the funnel I hear splashing, OH **** A LEAK, nope I filled it up too much and the over flow tank over filled lol.
So I put the cap back on, and followed the Service Manual instructions for bleeding the car, start the car, warm it up, open the bleeder cap untill coolant comes out, close it up, rev the car, blah blah blah...
I have heat now!
So Ill keep at it a few more times and see how it goes...everthing seems normal except for me over filling the tank.
P.S. I tried to syphon out the water/coolant mix from the over flow tank, 1. Coolant tastes like **** 2. It might be posionous and I might die, so Im washing it down with a beer.
Nice knowing you guys.
Oh one more thing, I think the coolant over flow tube was too short to reach the bottom of the tank, so thats why it seemed like fluid was in there but it was never able to suck it back in...causing air pockets?
I've changed it for a longer piece.

yeah, that's the #1 cause. even a small air pocket will result in cold air since the heater is at the highest point in the coolant system. the pocket will make its way around the coolant system and cause seemingly random spikes in temperature.
