Right now i have RI listed as my home... i'm at the Naval Academy and i'll be going out to my first command when i graduate which could be flight school in Pensacola or elsewhere to a ship if i dont get commissioned a pilot... pensacola is right next to bama and i cant imagine they are very strict on emmissions so i might just have to get an apartment there if thats where i go. haha Soo basically i would have to get the car inspected back here? or whereever i am registered as living?? i know a friend who does inspects back in RI so there wouldnt be an issue with that.. heard that test pipes release alot of hydro carbons and can be not pleasing to smell... dont want to be smelling jp5 all day on the runway and then have fumes on the ride home ...
i've been doing some research and i'm not sure about a BOV...from what i heard that is not legal for emmissions inspections.. is there a great benefit to having one??
looking alot at Forged Performance for the build... heard excellant things about sharif and his shop and its only bout a 7hr drive from here... not looking to get it done till next summer once i get everything figured out...just trying to get some real good solid ideas before send any requests over sharif's way...
still unsure about the shortblock... wanna try and keep the budget but i dont want a blown motor... you get what you pay for so if i have to spend the extra i will to keep the car more reliable...would it be cheaper to get shortblock rebuilt while doing turbo install?
from responses looks like i'll drop the CJM fuel system and koyo radiator and hose for now..

im not trying to be a dick at all, but it really seems like u dont know too much about what things are..idk maybe im wrong, but if u dont know what a bov does then idk...i think u should just call sharif if thats where u are choosing and tell him u want a stock block 400whp build and see what he tells u as far as being as safe as possible if thats what u are looking to do..i also think u are overkill with the haltech if u just do a build like this.. everyones gonna have their opinions go with what the builder wants and feels comfortable with but dont get taken for stupid cash along the way which i dont think sharif would do to u..

well i know what the BOV does but i was under the impression that the JWT setup had a BOSCH recirculating valve so i didnt know if that was suffice and i wanna keep the emmissions problems to the least amount as possible..
i plan on contacting forged and seeing mainly what they think would be good but i wanted to get a bunch of diff opinoins on it..

U live in Annapolis, hit me up for a guaranteed 100% emission pass on every try, WITH test pipes! High flow cats/cats suck for FI, u need to let it breathe. And when you're FI... NEVER ever EVER ever be far away from your tuner, but what do I know =)

Also you have to use test pipes as the turbos are so close to the cats they will burn up the cats in no time.....but i have the greddy's so i dont know a lot about any others.I burnt my stock ones up within 5 months.

so in essence basically everyone with a turbo setup should have test pipes and should then basically know someone at an inspection shop or have some way around emmissions testing b/c test pipes wouldnt pass correct?

i have test pipes and pass inspection no problem and have never thrown a check engine light or code to date, knock on wood...as long as no check engine lights are on here in ny ur good to go dont know about ur area...i mean it wouldnt pass a visual inspection if somebody actually checked to see if i had cats but nobody ever does that, and i go to a buddy of mine that works at a shop in my area anyway, so as long as i pass the scan through the obd port im good to go...never had a problem....

test pipes for the most part come with built in de-foulers so u dont throw any codes because of them...my berk test pipes did anyway, or u could do test pipes and a motordyne xyz w/ cat built in then u would have a cat if u feel its really necessary and it would be after the y pipe and not in a spot as hott as where the cat would normally be, i went through 2 sets of high flow cats before i switched to test pipes...i have a berk test pipes now and motordyne xyz w/ resonator and a nismo s-tune mid pipe and muffler section and it sounds amazing and no rasp at all with the motordyne worth every penny...

thank you tylerx... i am new to the FI and i am researching and learning more and more each day and i appreciate your patience and helping me understand everything that i read more clearly... the only other question i have is a bov... is that just a visual inspection that they'd catch you releasing the air under the hood or the sound or is there a sensor it'll throw off on the test?

In MD.....you can basically get never ending extensions. I had my built, turbo integra for 3 years without getting emissions. I got my first notice while the car was getting built, and every 6 months I went online and got an extension.........they kept on giving them too me so.

p.s. Tial 50mm is the best bov in my mind......

The BOV would be seen most likely, but if they aren't doing a vizual inspection for cats then they won't care about the BOV. Unless they rev the car really high you would not make enough pressure sitting still to activate the BOV anyway.

The info tyler is giving you is 100% correct as he built his car with passing emissions in mind. If you have cats and don't throw codes, you should pass a state inspection and emissions. Its all about what state you live in and what the laws and loopholes are in your area. In PA everything is done by OBD plug-in and is routed directly to the state database, so if you throw the same codes 2 years in a row you get flagged for it and will eventually fail until fixed. There are usually a set number of pending codes you are allowed prior to failure as well, so a reflash only makes the light on the dash go away, but doesn't solve the inspection issue. Good Luck.

yeah i originally had a turbo kit and sold it to get the measly supercharger kit becuause it would be easier for inspection time...i didnt want random codes being thrown like ive heard people getting with turbo kits, and etc...im sure it will end up twin turbo someday when its not my daily driver...as far as the blow off, i dont see that causing any problem getting inspected, my car before last was turbo and nothing was ever said about the bov during inspection...like cass said it all depends on if u get a visual inspection done which i dont really see a problem with a bov being seen anyway? why would that affect anything? has it before with people? ive never heard of it being a problem......

do u know anyone that works at a garage that does inspections? all they need to do is look the other way on a few things and as long as u pass the emissions test and all should be fine...

here in ny they plug in to the obd port and if u have any codes u fail...it is sent straight to albany, as long as there are no codes showing its good to go for me, like i said im not worried about the visual inspection part of things....go make a friend at a garage that does inspections..lol, but seriously if u pull in to a shop and have a turbo z most likely they are not gonna care and are gonna love the car and not give u a hard time...ive gone to shops when i had a srt-4 and didnt know anyone to pass me and that was catless and loud as **** and modded beyond what it should have been and the people were just asking me how fast it is never even did a visual inspection, just hooked it up and it passed the obd scan and good to go...lol

I have had no prob running HF cats. Just need to get higher quality cats (e.g. 200+ cels) for FI. Stock cats and smaller/cheaper HFC will indeed fail. Of course it's all preference... I value a car that doesn't smell like fuel over a few HP.

yeah i had the new berk high flow cats, which were the metallic ones, all high flows will eventually fail with a boosted car and i beleive its because of where they are placed and how hott they will get...my cats were 200+ cells, plus all high flow cats use magnaflow cores and thats the part that fails...i would def. suggesst for anyone thinking they need a cat to do test pipes and spend the extra on a motordyne xyz w/ cat built in...i just beleive it will save u in the long run.. but on a side note i now have test pipes and xyz w/ resonator and my car doesnt smell anymore and sounds great and no more worrying when the cats are gonna fail

hey tyler.. i was looking at the motordyne xyz w. resonator... so from what i got from your message the motordyne doesnt have smell that comes along with the test pipes? and does the resonator make it really loud? i'm not really looking for a loud exhaust which was why i was looking at the APS 2.5" cat back exhaust... no problems with emmissions testing on your modeling i'm assuming... how well do the motordyne w/ cats hold up??

This build is overkill for 400whp.

the motordyne xyz w/ resonator like i have quiets the exhaust down which is why i got it, it took away the rasp i was getting with my test pipe and nismo combo and gave it a deeper clean growl...It also did seem to help with taking away the smell, im not gonna say it doesnt smell at all if im running it for a while or hard pulls and come to a quick stop ill smell it a little sometimes, nothing crazy though and only if windows are down...the xyz w/ cat would be the only thing id try now that ive gone through 2 sets of high flow cats and how much of a pain in the *** they are to change, and if the cat ever failed on the xyz it would be 10x easier to change out, it is just v band clamped in and could be swapped out for the resonator or straight pipe module in 5 mns. and it is placed much further away from heat than the cats normally would be..i do love my motordyne and no problems with inspection..read about it a little with the testing they did on it and different modules u can swap in and out if u wanted

is there any restrictions on what exhaust system to use after the motordyne xyz?

don't get cats, simple as that...

the APS exhaust is perfect for your needs. It isn't overly loud and will flow well into the 500's . You have to keep in mind, most exhausts will be fairly quiet due to the turbo's. Think of them as a sort of resonator/muffler...

http://www.motordyneengineering.com/350Z_exhaust.php, u may just like there exhausts..but as far as the xyz with other exhaust, it just replaces a y pipe so it would work with any exhaust that is a y back exhaust off the cats and not a true dual...but i beleive motordyne has true dual setups also with same deal that u can use cats, straight pipes or resonator, and also have single exit exhausts that the xyz goes with...now thats ballin
