Default Best clutch/flywheel setup for f.i. 450 h.p. Range?

What are some clutch/flywheel setups you do and dont recomend? I am also looking for a clutch for street use and one with stock or a little more pedal pressure but not one you have to stand on. Thanks

the standard JWT clutch/flywheel will be just fine for that level.

You are suggesting he gets JWT clutch when he is going FI with goals of 450hp? I hardly think that's an appropriate choice.

If you are on a budget, look into Competition clutch. the 6 puck one. Vendor sells them on this site for pretty cheap with the flywheel.

If money is no issue, I think the carbonetics clutch would win hands down. But then again, it is quite pricey.

Don't ever get exedy street organic clutches or act organic ceramic or anything single disc organic/ceramic if you are going FI. It just won't handle and it's better to overdo your clutch than underdo it.

OS Giken twin (or triple)......Carbonetics twin (or triple) get my vote. However, like stated above, a JWT will suffice at that power level, but not much beyond that point.

While I agree for power levels above 500whp you should stay away from organic clutch discs. I disagree with below that. It is better to "overdo" your clutch to a point. The fact is you won't get the street-ability of the JWT with any clutch costing under $2,000. That's a little rich for the blood of guys that stick FI on stock motors most of the time.

I ran a JWT clutch/flywheel for 2 years with my APS twins and around 440rwhp. I made over 40 1/4 mile passes and beat the living crap out of it on the street every time I drove the car. I upgraded to a Carbonetic twin with my built motor, but I still miss how "stock like" the JWT setup was and how perfectly consistent it was for launching at the drag strip with slicks. The carbonetic really grabs, but it's much harder to launch the car because of this fact. The car will jump out of the hole and then bog after about 20 feet since the clutch pretty much instantly, fully grabs.

I have an OS Giken twin disc and absolutely love it. Wasn't cheap, but it feels great.

Pretty much what I'm dealing with on the Comp 6 puck. Plus, the light flywheel makes it even worse.

It's a great clutch for auto-x or road coarses, but for drag it's a PITA.

I know its kinda pricey, but I really like my Exedy Twin (GTM version). Holds lots of power, feels completely stock and is "extremely quiet".

Excellent clutch imo.

I have the Carbonetic Twin Disc and there is no chatter and pedal is great, but when it gets hot and your in traffic it gets mad GRABBY!!

I've started planning ways around town with the fewest lights and least traffic.

No chatter at all??? My carbonetic twin chatters A LOT once it gets even a little heat from normal driving in it. It's always been like that.

It depends which carbon disk compounds you have. There are 3 compounds. Standard, soft, and R. The standard compound isn't too bad when it get hot. You shouldn't be slipping the clutch anyway. My carbon twin or triple didn't chatter at all.

I'm pretty sure my discs are standard.

Shouldn't be slipping the clutch? How else do you recommend that I get the car moving from a stop?

When cool with a little slip it is smooth as silk, but once I do some pulls or travel in stop & go traffic a bit the whole car shudders when engaging. Only other option is to spin the tires every 10ft. I'm still trying to learn the clutch a bit too. I bought it used and have no idea what discs are in it.

Try letting it rev up to 2k-2.5k and let the clutch catch as the rpm's decline (say around 1700rpm) and it should engage more smoothly...........that's how my OS is anyway.
