Why does my turbo car sound like a diesel?
I just recently finished my custom turbo install on my G35. It is based off of an HKS GTRS twin turbo "setup kit", with JWT intercoolers and some custom charge/intake piping. I have a Greddy EVO2 exhaust and Berk test pipes. I also have a CJM stage 0 return and DW 600cc injectors. Before the turbo install I had stock cats and the car sounded pretty normal, except for the rattle from the ACT flywheel.
Well now that the car is turbo, the exhaust is actually a little quieter at idle even with the test pipes. Except now it sorta sounds like a diesel at idle. There is this "clicking" or "ticking" sound at idle that’s actually pretty loud in the cabin, accompanied by a rough sssshhh sound that almost makes me think I can hear the return fuel going back to the tank. I am thinking that the clicking sound might be the fuel injectors firing? Are the DW's noticeably louder than the stock injectors? Could the ssshhh sound be from the return fuel regulator being mounted to the firewall? I have heard exhuast leaks that sound similar, but I checked for leaks and I can't find any.

Yup, after I installed my injectors I heard the ticking. Thought I screwed something up, or worse, valve ticking (although there was no reasong for it).
So I got the stethoscope out ans started poking around while the engine was running. All was nice and quiet untill I hit the fuel rails. Those things tick like crazy, at least it's nothing to worry about.

Well at least it's normal. I also feared that it might be valve ticking…thoughts rushed through my head that I may have forgotten to put oil in, but then I quickly remembered that I did! I'm surprised how noisy they are - it's strange how they seem louder in the car than they do when you are looking under the hood. My 550cc RC injectors in my Miata do not seem this loud, but then again the exhaust is considerably louder. I guess I just need a louder exhaust!
What about the other noise? Has anyone expirienced a "running water" sort of noise when mounting the FPR to the firewall?

I did the installtion/fabrication work myself. I am also doing the tuning myself. Which reminds me - if anyone has good experience with a UTEC and 600cc injectors, please check out my other thread in the tuning section.
Yes, that stupid flywheel makes its own plethora of sounds. I installed the clutch and fly months before the turbo, so I am already familiar with these sounds. The ticking is a new sound, and I am now 90% certain it is the injectors.

I have the same noise with DW 440's. I narrowed it down to coming from the Aeromotive regulator mounted on the firewall. It's transmitting the fuel injector noise into the cabin. Not incredibly loud but definitely noticeable and 'diesel sounding'.
My FRS eliminated the factory fuel dampener which may also be part of the reason it's louder.

I dont have a FRS... and yes I still have the factory fuel dampener . No click clicks here though. WOT or not. Now the walbro in other hand.. definitely louder than stock.
From my investigation the noise is transmitted from the fuel rails to the regulator. If the regulator is mounted on the firewall, it transmits the noise into the cabin and it sounds like ***
.
