My BOV has a hole where "this" was.... It's not there and must have backed out over time or wasn't tightened enough. Does anyone know what this does and if it's needed to replace?

Right, but that thing is hard as a rock. I can't find any info to understand why the hell its on their in the first place.... I can't find the damn thing and I want to know if it will hurt to drive the car with it off.

 

It is a muffler.

+1. air exhausting through a small hole will produce alot of noise. these little mufflers will muffle that noise. since you dont have one, your setup should be a bit noisier than if you did have one, but not much harm done if its missing.

 

Called Vortech, they said it was to protect the diaphram from
debris, non-issue. Ordered a replacement for $12 shipped.
