high mileage vortech
I want other peoples input both professional and opinions. I have an 03 and i have over 90,000 miles and i came to a problem. I have already bought a vortech v2 by itself and here are the mods im getting with it:
-255 fuel pump
-600cc injectors
-oil press.,oil temp.,fuel press.,boost,a/f ratio gauges
-UTEC EMS
-oil pan spacer
-1 colder plugs
-oil catch can
-oil cooler
-nismo thermostat
-stage 2 meth kit
But the thing is, which you probably started thinking, is that i have almost 100,000 miles on my engine. Im trying to figure out if its good to have that on a stock block with that many miles. I never let my oil get low and i do frequent oil changes with amsoil. It seems that i have a oil consumption problem, like most people do with VQ35.
I know our blocks can hold up to 450hp until it starts to see problems with the rods and block. If theres a safe way to have this setup, for example, installing new head gaskets, because thats one thing that tends to go out during FI then im gonna do it. Who ever i talk to doesnt give me any type of technical information that im looking for so im posting it on here.
So what im asking for is:
1) should i go ahead and do it with the mods i listed
2) add something else for reliability (references from you)
3) say f**k it and try and get my money back for my SC and get a fully built block capable of devistating numbers then get the SC and s**t much later on OR should i get forged wheels and suspension and keep the bolt ons i have now???
But keep this in mind....im not made of money so its either or for a while....
thanks for your time and patience and i hope to get some helpful info from those who have mastered the VQ35DE.

Just do it and make sure to get a real real good tune.
I dont know about where you live but here in Fl theres about 5 different shops that will swap you in a Used Vq for under 3k$. Some will even put in a Rev-up for a tad bit more. ZFever in Tampa has over 20 Vq's on crates all with miles listed and other details ready to be swapped in. There motors range anywhere from 10k miles to 80k. They swap alot of peoples blown boosted motors all the time.
When I spray the **** out of my car knowing that makes me feel just a tad bit better.

If the car and motor has had good care, then 100,000 miles is not a lot of miles. It's not like it was 30-40 years ago. Nissans motors can last beyond 300,000 mile if well cared for.
You said you have an oil consumption problem.... if it's not a leak, then It's burning oil and I would find out what the cause is First before dumping any more money into the car.
Most people DO NOT have an Oil consumption Problem. My car does Not Leak or Burn a Drop of oil, I Never need to add oil between oil changes and I've had a vortech Sc (@ 14psi and rev it to 7100rpm) on my car from the time it was 3 months old (7 years). I have an 03 with 45,000 miles, 42,000 supercharged......
Did you buy this car New or Used?

i bought the car used from a college kid who seemed to take care of it. He took it to the dealership when it was under warrenty all the time for everything. When i bought her it had about 65,000 miles on it. Ive done my fair share of spirited driving before and now. Ive done a lot of work on her myself including all transmission parts and new transmission. Ive dropped the transmission 5 times. I did the exhaust and intake and all other simple bolt ons myself. I should find out why its consuming oil though but i hate that i have to pay someone to do that because i dont have time to do that myself with my job.
03's werent know for an oil consumption problem. A leakdown and a compression test, like stated would be the best route.
I'd personally never boost a motor not at 100%. Its risky enough. If you dont see visible signs of a leak (you can even add UV dye to your oil and look for leaks with a blacklight), then good chance the motor is fairly worn and needs a refresh (ie rings at a minimum...)

If your compression and leak down tests show no issues, then have a back up plan..meaning if u install ur mods tomorrow and blow it all up on Friday, are u SOL financially for replacing/rebuilding the motor?
Good luck to you man!
so im going to do a compression test and figure out how to do a leak down test. i work on diesel engines and have been for 2 years and i havent heard of a leak down test but ill figure it out. So according to the recent posts everyone pretty much agrees to either getting the v2 and everything else done or getting a new block. its either one or the other for at least the next year or so.....i would be haveing forged performance doing the tune and some installs i dont have time for btw.

so i did the compression test and i got good readings. The compression is suppose to be above 145 i believe and im at 175 in cylinders 2,4,5,6 and 170 in cylinders 1 and 3. There isnt more than a 20% difference. If there was a 20% difference it would of been at 140. Anyways i also found out my oil consumtion problem. Which i did more research on in a different direction and found out quite a few VQ engines have the same problem. The ring seal around the hole between the head and valve cover is bad. oil is leaking onto the coilpack and on the sparkplug and finds its way into the cylinder combustion chamber (which btw the #5 coilpack is f***ed from the oil and heat as well as most of my sparkplugs were just about worn.lol). Another thing was my left hand valve cover seems to be leaking somewhat (by the residue and build up around the valve gasket). And i read in another forum about this guy who had a VQ and he had a bad oil consumption problem and found out it was the valve covers that needed to be cleaned/replaced. Well hope that helps some of you out too. So my engine seems healthy and strong so as soon as i get new valve covers, new valve cover gaskets, new pcv hose, and new coil pack which all amounts to $500 shipped ill be getting that SC build like ive dreamed.
