Ya i have seen and worked on this car............and the last thing HUY needs is to build or mess with anything engine related..........

it looks "CLEAN" becuase he paid cash for a body kit and paint versus fixing the "issues" it has....

There is so much more this car "needs"............

He needs to get his priorities straight.....owning a FI Z is no simple business.......knowing if the engine is built or building the engine is not a priority, cause beating on it in its current condition is rediculous...

you can tell if the engine has ever been apart by looking at the bolt heads around the timing covers and upper oil pan. Also, looking at the RTV sealant around the upper pan and timing covers will be a dead giveaway. Factory assembly is gray rtv, nissan sells orange rtv so they can see if its ever been apart. But that doesnt mean someone couldnt have just bought gray RTV somewhere else so you have to look at how its spread on and what not... you can tell.

put a boroscope down a plug channel and look at the piston tops.

take off lower oil pan, IIRC you can see the first 2 cyl connecting rods from there.

take off intake manifold see if the valves are maybe SS to giveaway a build.

compression test numbers can sometimes clue you in on compression ratio.

post pics of the car maybe we will recognize it.

I think we would all like to know what "issues" the car has.

I bought my Z with a turbonetics setup on it from a dealer with only 51,000 miles. I got all the info on the previous owner who did that work on the car and it is real clean with no issues. I only paid $12,500 for it. I know the APS kit is expensive but it kinda seems like the OP got screwed on the deal.

I'm not gonna spell out whats wrong with his car......thats for him to say and most don't fess up on a forum.........if i do, that would be crappy on my part and i wont......but yes, there is more needed on his car than for him to find out of its built or not, im trying to help him, but its also no my car and not my concern, so well see i guess...

sounds to me your car was a good deal considering...congrats..
