I totally agree! Too many important wires sitting way too close to that cog belt! I know it wouldn't of taken much for them to fabricate some sort of belt cage or guard to go with the kit. I know these belts don't break often but every time one does the fact that it can take out your ecu and cause major damage is just unacceptable. Still my fault for knowing the dangers and not taking the time to make my own guard.

UPDATE:
The fix for this was (as you guys all said) to replace the ecu. New ecu in and all is good (I owe my friend huge on this, thanks Nate). I will be spending some time protecting these wires with multiple layers of wire loom before I even think about putting that cog belt back in.

The same happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Cog belt shredded, taking out the cam sensor plug. Problem is, I can't find the plug for sale anywhere! I called the stealership, and they claimed they don't sell that piece but instead only the entire harness (about $1,000!) Is this true? If so, where the hell can I find the part? Certainly hope I'm not dealing with a blown ECU!
Thanks for the help guys.

Great answers guys, I appreciate the help!
I will certainly check out those sources (junkyard, ebay, etc.).
I plugged into my Osiris since the post and it won't even detect my ECU. It is pulling U1000 and C1136 codes. From what I read, this isn't good, huh?
Based on your experience, what am I looking at? New ECU with a new tune through Osiris. How much money am I looking to surrender?
Thanks again for the help.

FWIW.... that fuse is located behind the battery. you have to take the battery out to get to it
But you'd know if it was blown cuz your fans would turn on when you turned the key on.
When my cog belt went, it shorted my IVT wires. Its a 12V solenoid so it friend my UTEC and the IVT drivers on the stock ECU. I could still use the ECU just fine, just not the cam phasing.
If you cant even see the ecu, its prolly fried. You can use any ECU from the same engine and transmission. The UPREV reflash will take care of the rest.

That's a great point, I did notice that the fan came on when I turned the key to the on position. So the ECU is fried?
What a pain in the ***! haha. Looks like I will be hunting for a used ECU. Anyone got one laying around?
You guys are the best, thanks for the help.
As for the plug, definately still going to need that. How can I get that from you?

Also, go to Autozone or something and do a code scanner on your car, if you get an 1136 code your ecu is fawked. OBD2 Port is behind the ashtray or change holder at the bottom of the dash.
