This is a continuation from a previous thread I started. A few weeks back I had a failure of my cog belt and it took out my "cam wire" and blew my ecu fuse. Tonight I replaced the plug and re-connected it to the sensor. My car idles rough when this wire is connected and idles smooth when it is disconnected. I went to Autozone to clear codes and they immediately came back when I restarted my engine (I believe it was a multiple cylinder misfire and a air/fuel code). Before I left I unplugged the connector and the engine runs smooth but of course my service light stays on. So now my situation is, I have repaired this damaged wire and when it's plugged in the car runs rough and when it is unplugged it runs smooth. Of course I need this wire to be plugged in so just leaving it unplugged is not an option. Sound like ecu damage? If I replace my ecu, will I need a re-tune? Could this cam sensor (or whatever it's called) be damaged? I have a friend who is a Nissan mechanic who I will hopefully talk with tomorrow but just trying to get some ideas in the meantime. This just makes me want to park this car in my garage and say Fu@k it!

I just pulled my computer out, loosened a few screws and peeked inside. There doesn't seem to be any physical damage nor any burnt electrical smell but I guess this still doesn't rule out the ecu completely. I will know more tomorrow after I talk with my friend but it does seem that the car runs fine until I plug in the sensor. I guess if the wire did ground out it could of taken out the sensor before it tripped the fuse. Not sure if this is good news or not.

that fried my ecu and split second box when it happened to me. the ecu fuse is on the power supply to the ecu, their is no fuse on the cam sensor circuit. if it tripped the ecu fuse the short ran through the ecu to get there. mine wasnt burnt just stuck in a limp mode

good luck I hope for you thats all it is, but how it was explained to me when it happened to my car when those 2 wires touch it grounds out the ecu. having the fuse blow is a bad sign.
i only noticed that something was wrong about 20 minutes after driving the car. the ecu lost control of the cam timing and it felt like it was slightly missing around 4k-4.5k rpm.

Just got back from Autozone. The code it is giving is P1136 (Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering). Again it runs and idles fine until I hook up this cam sensor. Thinking my next step should be to open up my utec and look for any damage to the circuit board. If that looks good then I am going to replace this sensor and if it is still a problem I really don't know, guess I will have to replace my utec/ecu...... Any other thoughts?

Thanks. Well all Vortech guys out there please learn from my mistake and somehow protect these wires (like Str8dum did). I thought about doing it and never did and now I'm paying the price. It sucks to think of all the precautions I have taken with everything else and now a simple shredded belt has caused so much trouble.
