I do not think its a damaged piston, I am almost 100% it is the rings but ill attempt a leakdown test this weekend hopefully. If it is infact blow the cot a rebuild at this point isnt really worth it but at the same time i dont feel like emptying the catch can after ever 5 or so runs. Could routing the can to drain back into the oil pan be an ok solution?

After emptying my can a few times and seeing the nasty oil/fuel/gunk mixture up close, there is no way I'd drain that crud back into my oil pan.

GL with a resolution. My engine was a complete longblock from IPP. I am high compression NA. From what Vince@RT Tuning says, my block doesn't have a problem consuming oil. I am curious to see what happens, but haven't got my final tune yet. Vince has been running it relatively rich for built NA, WOT@7k rpm has me around 12.5.

The dealership you went to sounds like they abused it a little. Could a lean condition like Chris@FsP hypothesized have occurred with during their joyride?

sounds like your motor has been damaged due to a bad tune and not breaking the motor in properly. ipp blocks and our blocks are done up by the same machine shop. they have an outstanding reputation and we have never had a problem with there blocks. running that low of an af on a break in tune will render the motor useless

That what I figured. The poor break in can be blamed on the dealership incident. As for the tune, my tuner tuned the car to 18psi and then left me with only 1 map when I wanted 2, one for being low boost (13psi) instead I was told that 13psi would run fine with the same map.....yea not.....anyway Ill see where I stand this weekend after the leakdown and go from there....

10.6psi ....78 miles on a the new motor....

Go ahead and let that dealership know that they trashed your engine.

As someone stated earlier, everyone has their own methods for break-in, but NO BOOST for a good 500 miles is pretty standard.

^+1. I'd write the service manager a pithy email/letter and follow up with a phone call to them and NNA, if need be. An enthusiast working at a dealership should be much more respectful of another person's property, especially when you told them to be careful.

I called the dealership today and spoke with the service manager, he knew about this issue already as I went in and raised hell when I picked up my car. I told him of the current issues and said that I would like to sit down with him on monday and discuss where he/the dealership would like to go from here. Ive decided to do the leakdown test on saturday but I already know what the results will be. I would like to possibly consider sueing the dealership for the damaged motor and rebuild but Im not sure if that would hold in court as I cannot present 100% proof of their ragging on it damaged the motor, other then stating that they disregarded my instructions? Who knows, guess thisll get interesting.

Sorry to hear. Very sorry to hear... Reminds me why I only trust a few people with my car. My Dad, myself, and GTM.

And whoever told you that a 13psi map will work with 18psi is BS lazy pos. Which you were proly running the 13psi map = rich a/f because he's a lazy &*%$.

I dont exactly why a rich tune on a breakin would be so bad though. If someone could explain. I would say better rich and lean, but what do I know.

If you considering that route, I would proly just vent both valve covers to atmosphere and forget the can.

Good Luck Jon... just for the record, I haven't even seen your car since the tune, so I don't think I rubbed any fail on it

While mileage is still low and the engine is on break-in, the rings haven't fully seated and an overly rich mixture can wash down the cylinder a lot and prevent the rings from seating properly.

I would try to run the engine in some more 78 miles just isn't enough to tell. Your 18 psi tune can be used to break in the motor at 13 psi, as long as you stay out of boost. There shouldn't be that much of a difference in vacume. A a/f 10.5 really wont wash the cylinders, now if you were talking 9.0 or less that would be different. Give the motor some time unless the dealer is willing to pay for a rebuild. Keep in mind they may want one of there techs to do it to keep their cost down.

The engine has about 1000 miles on it now or so. It was beat at the dealership when it had only 78 miles....
