Default want to step up the boost. what do i need?

Hey guys, so ive done a little searching and kinda can get a vague idea of what i need to step down to the next size smaller pulley but i cant really get a clear answer. I have the vortech kit on my 05 non rev-up with invidia TD and the berk test pipes and the 1 step colder plugs. Just wondering do i have to do all the fuel upgrades to go to the 3.12 pulley? or can i get away with putting the pulley on and getting a new tune? Sounds like most people do the return fuel system, Utec, and injectors. Do i have to do all or one of these? I like the 6 pounds, it would just be nicer if i had 6 pounds before it's time to shift you know? I did 350 whp 337wtq and it would just be nice if i could have that 350whp a little sooner. Thanks in advance for the input.

u will need bigger injectors (at least 440cc) and a way to prevent the belt from slipping at higher rpms. Best way to prevent slippage is using the TIMROD method. U can use the search button to learn more and u can buy one here (https://my350z.com/forum/turbos-nitr...s-vortech.html) if ure interested. gl

yep, basically just bigger injectors. The unichip or ss box will be enough as is for tuning. You won't need to change all that around to get more hp but they help in a lot other areas.

I would go with larger injectors and a Walboro 255 and scrap the Vortech FMU.Then just retune the SS box or Unichip.Your AFRS will be much more stable then just doing injectors and keeping the FMU. The FMUs tend to allow the mixtures to go all over the place.Typically it is still on the rich side but I have seen massive swings in the AFRS from 10 to 12's to 1 under boost. It is almsot silly.

If you have the new revised setup from vortech then you won't need to use the timrod method. Just use the revised setup from vortech (that is setup with all new vortech systems). If you want to make sure it won't slip at all then get the GTM pulley mod from GTM motorsports. (125$ ish)

you can find some 440 or 600 cc injectors on here used. Personally if you are only going for 3.12 pulley i'd say find some 440's beucase you can find them super cheap used and they are only 20$ an injector to have them cleaned from dw or rc. 440's are like upper 400$ new and 600's are mid 500's new. You can snag some cheap 440's on here for under 300$. I know i let mine go for super cheap.

I had no problem using 440's when i ran a 2.87 pulley.

Good call turbotim, walbro 255 fuel pump is a must. 90$ or so.

the 3.12 pulley will only give u an extra 1-2 psi. If u step down to a 2.87 pulley then u will notice a big change in power.

ya, 2.87 is the way to go. You have to spend the money on the fuel system no matter what route you go so might as well get more power out of it.

people never udnerstand the cost involved in more power. It's never as simple as just bumping up the boost level.

So true! im contemplating on going 2.87 on my block, but before that im looking at the cost of oil coolers/tran coolers. anti slip cogs ( accesories to make sure it doesnt happen), Fuel return unit and internals which may be rods ( but from harrison's set up, he burnt rings before the rods which i was like REALLY!?" ) so yeah... all im saying to the OP, is you might feel a little bit of a difference, but you wont feel 40 hp but you will notice a blown engine.

you won't feel 40hp? you're kidding right? 40hp is huge, you'll feel it.

2.87 is fine on a stock block with a good tune. many of us on here have done it without problems. and you don't need an oil cooler. My oil temps never went about 210 with a built engine and 14psi on my vortech. 507dj hp.

oh believe me i understand the money thing, and ya you are right you do hear a lot of people say... "oh im only at 6psi but if you beat me ill just go home and switch pulleys" haha uh huh.. sure. but for sure as long as you have a good tune and your car runs good, you should safely be able to run the 2.87, i feel pretty comfortable at about 400whp on stock block. i mean there are flukes yes, but generally i should be safe as long as im set up correctly.

ya, it's not great but the only downfalls are things that shouldn't be a concern. I think it has problems on injectors over 550 but you should be ok with 440's. I'm sure you could use 600's if you get a reflash or maybe it will work with 600's. I've nevr tried it.

SSbox does what it needs: fuel and timing.

keep the fuel correct and keep the timing safe and your engine will run fine.

i'd stick with the 3.12 rather than the 2.87. i've run both pulleys and don't believe the additional 20-30 ponies is worth the increased risk / wear&tear. your car will be plenty fast anyway. the rest of the proposed mods look fine to me, but what have you done as far as cooling mods?
