Default Any tips on towing?

Just trying to plan ahead a bit

Picking up my TT G with a freshly built engine at the end of this coming week....hopefully. Since I'll be driving the car about five hours away from my shop I've been thinking about buying a cheap full size PU truck to tow with.

My question is really about types of trailers. I'm more of a city boy and don't have any experience towing vehicles except using full size U Haul trailers, never a dollie (Dolly sp?). Those trailers can be a b1tch even on a car with normal ride height not to mention on a reasonably lowered Z/G when trying to open the door to get out once the vehicle is on the trailer. Know what I mean?

Any insights would be nice.

Thanks Guys,

George

Use the full size U-haul if you can get the car on it. If your lowered too much (like mine) you may have to take the front fascia off to not damage the front.

Also, get 2"x6"x8' plank and cut two 30" pieces and two 18" pieces, put the longer pieces at the front and the shorter pieces on top of them and it should lift the front end high enough to let the doors open when you drop the fenders down on the trailer. Or you can learn the hard way like I did and have to crawl out through the window or rear hatch.

This is exactly what I had to do with the full-size uhaul trailer

The U-Haul auto hauler driver side wheel well comes down enough for you to open your door and get out.

My issue is getting off when I take it somewhere.
Getting on is no issue since I put the auto hauler at the bottom of my driveway ramp and then the car just goes right up with no rubbing on the bottom.

Maybe at stock ride height, but not if your lowered like me. Its 1-2" too low to clear the tires with the fender down.
