Default Looking for Stock Exhaust Mod Thread..

Hey guys!

I remembered someone opened up their stock muffler and replaced the internal baffles with 3 inch ones, but i can't find the post anywhere. Does anyone remember this? Thanks in advance!

Yea, I've gone through 3 of them, and they're all just too loud with the HFC and Vortech. I figured I'd try this method out since someone here's already tried it.

Ive seen the thread a long time ago, the guy basically performed a autopsy on the stock Calsonic muffler and gutted it. He posted videos and it did not sound very good.

Maybe just removing the resonator in the midpipe would help.

I played with all sorts of combos with the stock exhaust when I first got my Z. I really liked the sound of the stock rear section/midpipe with just a aftermarket Y-Pipe and test pipes. Im sure it flowed just fine too, the main restriction is in the horrid factory y-pipe and Cats.

Lookup Thom00001 he's running a custom stock exhaust and has a twin turbo G Coupe close to 1000whp on race gas and 650whp regular

He had Sound Performace customize his exhaust. I'm sure he can help you find what u need

Are there quiet exhuasts for FI applications? Power and quiet don't normally go together. I changed my single JIC (which is for sale wink wink) for the GReddy Ti-C and until you are at full load, not much sound difference in the cabin. The dual is quieter than the single at WOT, not sure if you will find what you are looking for without giving up significant power.

Boosted Performance opened up an ebay muffler, not the oem one.

I have the stock muffler with the first chamber gutted (basically only chamber).
And the drivers side is modified to accept a 4in inlet pipe.

With atmospheric dumping wastegates, we have put 801 rwhp through that muffler. I am sure it is still holding some back.

Your best bet if you want stock quiet, but full power potential, is the SP boost activated cutout. Leave stock exhaust in place, put cutout at the Y and bam...quiet all the time till you get on it (and it opens automatically).

Thats probably what I'll be adding over winter....who knows, maybe crack 700rwhp on pump.....

Here are pics (muffler is coated)

My APS 2.5" TD was pretty damn quiet (almost stock like) yet sounded pretty good at WOT but still wasn't very loud....It also happens to be for sale

See if Tony at Motordyne has a VQ muffler left on the shelf. 3 inch system and as loud as stock.

There's about 5 thousand stock mufflers on Craigslist for sale. Ive seen some go for $50 for a entire setup. Just buy a few and start experimenting.

Stock muffler is quite heavy though....finding a decent quiet and lighter alternative would be a simple weight savings.

Ive been contemplating doing a quieter system but dont want to sacrifice performance.

I thnik Fast Intentions has a dual 3", and I know their stuff is top notch and not on the loud side. Or I do another exhaust + cutouts.

The APS is just nasty mean, all the time.

I built my own rear Magnaflow muffler. Single 3" in with dual 2.5" out. It works very well, is much lighter than stock, with straight through flow.

I am looking at making a few of these as I have got a few PM's after posting these pictures in another thread:

I will use this muffler when building more:

i had that muffler on my vortech. replaced it with a Y-pipe and it didnt change the noise level much (ie that muffler doesnt muffle)

definitely be using a resonator with my new exhaust

Yea, my current Exhaust is the X02, I put a Mangaflow X in there, and it helped, but it's still too loud for me.

I've heard the FI exhaust in person and it's sounds similar to my current setup.

Maybe the cutout is the answer once it's available. My concern would be that the Vortech's like a little back pressure. I think someone posted a Dyno earlier that shows the power increase with a little more back pressure.
