Default Another Vortech V3 Setup...

Scroll to the bottom of this post for the most recent setup

Hello all. I recently installed a Vortech V3 System and would like to share my setup and results.

First, the mod list.

- Vortech V3 w/2.87 Pulley
- GTM Pulley Mod
- Haltech Platinum Pro w/Dual Widebands
- DW 600c Injectors
- Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
- Powerlab 3/8" Spacer
- Berk TP's
- Stillen True Dual Exhaust
- Mishimoto Radiator
- Custom Catch Can

Here is the graph from my best run:

I was really hoping for around 375whp. I do have heavy 20" wheels and this dyno is known to break hearts, which is why I hoped for 375whp as opposed to 400whp.

The car saw AIT's as much as 140F during pulls.
My tuner said that on the first run without any adjustments, the car made around 10.5psi. After the first run, the boost went down to 9 to 9.5psi. As you can see I stop making boost around 6000rpm. I feel like there is more power to be had, and I wanted to get some feedback as to why this may be happening. My tuner suggested that there may be a restriction (i.e. Me not having headers). Could it be something else? A boost leak, belt slip? Any insight would be helpful.

Some small information about the car...
During the install we had one screw clamp strip during the install. The clamp is on the coupler, but we could not get it on as tight as the others. I will definitely replace this clamp.
As well, I currently have no belt squeal and the belt passes the one finger test.

**Updated Setup**

Parts Changed:

- 928M Impeller (SCi Blower / S Trim Volute)
- 928M 2.62 Pulley (Gates K060790 Belt)
- Spearco 5-383 Intercooler
- DW 300lph Fuel Pump
- ID 1000cc Injectors
- CJM Stage 0

Results (Page 5 - Post #99 is where the results discussion starts):

Dynojet numbers are approximately 485whp/430wtq.

Here is a video of one of the runs (iPhone quality / action ends at about 30 seconds):

even with test pipes i think you should see higher boost. as you noted, the car stopped making boost just before 6k rpm so i'm thinking you have either a leak or belt slip. once the car is warmed up you really won't hear belt squeal even if its loose. clean your bracket & hood off (probably a lot of belt residue after the initial tune) then do some more pulls. if you get a bunch of belt residue your belts are loose.

yeah it sounds like something isnt right, with the 2.87 pully you should be making about12psi i think without headers, but that might be due to the 3/8 spacer. best guess is that you may be loosing boost around that clamp that you mentioned. I'm not too sure but isnt 140 kind of high for AIT? that may be another factor for the lower than expected numbers. all in all its not bad power at all for a S/C on a stock block. i remember when i had my blower with similar numbers, its was a blast to drive

Always do a boost pressure test before you take your car to have it tuned. Pull the 2.87 pulley off and have the grooves sandblasted, I did a diy on how to do this on here. You could have rubber built up on your 2.87 pulley, obviously the sand blasting would fix that too. I say 80% chance it's belt slip 20% chance it's a boost leak but check for both. I hit 11 psi and have the same setup as you.

It's belt slip...power drops off sharply after 6K. You easily have about 370-380whp if you fix it.

You have a leak or slip, no way 342 hp is acceptable on the 2.87 pully

For those of you who are curious as to what the problem was....

Yesterday, I replaced a stripped hose clamp, and I tightened the supercharger belt. I took the car out to my "test track" and I was able to see 12psi in the 6K rpm range on my gauge.

The car feels great after 6K. There is obviously more power being made. I think I am going to tighten the belt just a bit more because I heard a small squeak going up my driveway. Once I do that, I just need to bring it back to my tuner to get it tuned and I'll post up my new numbers!

I will definately have to give a few more turns on my pulley tensioner if people are seeing that much boost on a stock motor + blower.

Yes, the vehicle has forged internals, JWT cams, testpipes, Crawford plenum, and APS 3" exhaust. We removed the split second and installed a PMAS and tuned with Osiris. The customer is not sure on the rest of the mods(he bought the car upgrade). Wish I had more info for you.

Hate to bump my old thread, but figured it might be valuable to someone to know what I ran at the track the other day.

With the belt being more tight, seeing between 11-13psi, the car ran 12.68@113mph.

When I have time, I'll be bringing the car back for a re-tune to see if I can squeeze a few more horses out of her.

Overall I am very happy with the time, especially since I am on heavy 20" rims.
